Publisher's summary

Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-read robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world - all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asmiov’s trademark.

The three laws of Robotics: 1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm 2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

With these three, simple directives, Isaac Asimov changed our perception of robots forever when he formulated the laws governing their behavior. In I, Robot, Asimov chronicles the development of the robot through a series of interlinked stories: from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future - a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete.

Thank you

Thank you so much for publishing this classic, I Robot! I have been waiting the five years of my membership for this to happen! This is the first book I read as a child in elementary school. At that age I naively wrote Asimov a letter offering him $7 for the plans for the robot character. The mench he was, Azimov wrote me back appologizing for the plans not being his to sell. I Robot is the foudation of all science fiction robot behavior published in written or film form. I reccommend this audio rendition highly.

Absolute Must Hear

The Godfather of modern Science Fiction writes the Grandfather of all robot stories. Everything before was lacking in depth and everything after "borrowed" from this series. Asimov sets up rules of behavior for robots and a universe with a nearly unbreakable internal logic (only Asimov himself "bends" them with anything like impunity"). Other writers who have ignored the need for the Three Laws of Robotics have given us the Berserkers and the Borg and the like. Also good fiction; thus highlighting Asimov's genius in the first place! Enjoy!

This is one of the best Audible books I have listened too. I read the Asimov books something like 10 years ago, and wanted to see what this would be like. I was more than pleased. PLEASE Audible, bring us ALL of the Asimov foundation and robot books!

Re-Read Worthy

I've been a fan of Asimov, literally, for decades... ever since I was reading adult-level sci-fi novels waaaaay back in my gradeschool years. I love his novels now, even more. I reread his works again in my 20's & 30's, & I am now re-re-reading them in my 60's. (It is a personal project of mine to read the authors/books one more time that I have so enjoyed throughout my life... interspersed with newer/current authors/books that I find interesting now.) If you are a fan of sci-fi, I strongly recommend this & all other novels by Isaac Asimov. His books were amazing when 1st printed (this one was printed in 1950, I think), & I believe they are just as amazing and CURRENT today!

Perfect book but not the best narration

It was finally time for me to take the time to listen to this masterpiece.
One of the best reads! It's is still hard to believe it dates back to 1950.
However the narration of the book wasn't the best. The narrator didn't make that many efforts to change intonation between characters. As a comparison, The Three body problem audio book is narrated way way better!

Short Stories of Robots Gone Bad

This book held up pretty well considering it was written in 1950. It's a collection of short stories of robots gone bad as they struggles with obeying the three laws of Robotics. The movie isn't based on any of the stories. It inspired by the book and includes the characters Dr. Susan Calvin and Dr. Alfred Lanning (who are more likable in the movie than in the book).

Catching up on the classics

I was surprised to find this more a group of interconnected short stories than one long novel, rather like The Martian Chronicles. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Chapters don’t align with stories

Great story, great vocal performance! The start/end of stories in book and chapters of audiobook don’t align, which is super annoying!.

interesting read

it was an interesting story, but it got a little slow toward the end, but not slow enough to stop reading it. the narrator was excellent with accents, but didn't differentiate otherwise between the voice as much, so that it was hard to tell who was talking sometimes.
