Good job, Audible!

I was somewhat worried before buying this book, due in large part to the butchering Audible gave to the Dragonlance Chronicles, which, like this series, I'd read when I was younger. Also, I'd tried reading/listening to Salvatore's Neverwinter Saga, and found it overly dramatic and simple (considering it's a lead-in to a computer game, and I'd heard Salvatore wasn't too happy about writing it the way his publishers wanted, it may not be his best effort).
But, having loved this series and the Icewind Dale trilogy years ago, I decided to give it a shot in audio, wanting to re-experience these stories.
And I'm glad I did.
Victor Bevine's narration is very good- he conveys both the emotions of the characters and the urgency of a battle scene very well, and overall delivers a great listening experience. And, in my opinion, Salvatore's early work is superior to his later novels.
If you're expecting a lot of politicking and other "tedium" that can slow down other books, you may be disappointed. These books are fast-paced and action-packed. Salvatore's writing style is different from the likes of Jordan, Sanderson, and Erikson (all of whom I enjoy), but that is not a negative. They're just plain fun.
I can't wait for the next books to be released. And that doesn't happen too often.

Fantatic Entry into Audible Fantasy for me!

Would you listen to Homeland again? Why?

In a few years when the material isn't so fresh in my mind, absolutely!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Drizzt, he's a character out of his own culture and a powerful fighter. He's a character everyone would want to be like.

What about Victor Bevine’s performance did you like?

Different convincing voices for each character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was just a fun listen from start to finish.

Any additional comments?

I've been listening to a lot of Sci-fi because thats my scene. However, the first novel I ever read cover to cover was written by R.A. Salvatore and it was riveting to me as a teen and I could barely put it down. I remembered the author when I seen this book on a friends shelf and thought I need to see if Audible has that title. This is the origin story of a very fun character and it is a very fun great read I'm excited to read the rest in this series and to follow the adventures of Drizzt Do'Urden.

Salvatore creates the perfect character in Drizzt

Many years ago, I read this series and the Crystal Shard trilogy when they were first published and have followed the life and experiences of Drizzt the Drow Elf for many years. When it was released by Audible on audiobook, I was excited to jump back in and re-live those stories...I am so glad I did. Hearing these novels read by Victor Bevine is fantastic! His voice is perfect and he brings each character to life in their own unique way! Have downloaded this trilogy and the Crystal Shard trilogy to listen to again and again. I'm also sharing these audiobooks with my 10 and 11 year old children and teaching them the principles of the books...you can rise above your environment. You can become whatever you want, and living a principled life may not be easy, but it is worth it! Thanks Audible for bringing me back to these great books!

Better than expected

Any additional comments?

I kind of expected this book to be over the top and too far fetched for my liking with really corny fantasy characters. I was wrong though, the book was awesome and I found myself sitting in parking lots listening because I didn't want to stop the story. It turned out to be a book with heavy self-reflection on Drizzt's part with ample drama. Of course the obligatory fantasy fights ensue. Looking forward to book 2.

Just as great as I remember!

As a D & D geek from the 70s, this series was so great in finally giving me an insight to the mindset and personalities of the Draw (from the G, D, and Q series). However, it is much more than that as Salvatore breathes life into a genre that had gotten somewhat stale over the years. The Drizzt series is a must, not only for the old school D & Ders, but for anybody who loves a well told tale.

Having the audible version made for some great walks in the morning as Victor Bevine is fantastic in his approach to the story.

wow

Good performance. Bit hard to follow due to the complex names of things and characters but you soon catch on. The battles are grand and Drizzt's character journey is a joy to follow. 1st book i've read of his and the Drow culture is engrossing to learn about. Political movements and religious zealoutry akin to Game Of Thrones but in one book th hat takes far less time to read. It feels like the entirity of the Drow have it out for Drizzt, and in the next book possibly the rest of the Underdark too...
