    "Pretty good"
If you could sum up Homeland in three words, what would they be?

    Grows on you

What did you like best about this story?

It took a bit to get all the background of the story but it is a series and as the story goes on, it gets better and better. It is dark and cruel but our hero emerges and there is hope.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I think when Zack and Drizzt's last 'fight'. They come to the knowledge of what they are to each other and it is touching.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when Drizzt and his cat leave, they leave as friends together. Doesn't sound like much, but in their world, friendship and loyalty to one another is unheard of.

    Any additional comments?

I actually listened to this a couple of times before I really got into the story but am glad I took the time. I will continue the series.

"Fantatic Entry into Audible Fantasy for me!"
Would you listen to Homeland again? Why?

In a few years when the material isn't so fresh in my mind, absolutely!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Drizzt, he's a character out of his own culture and a powerful fighter. He's a character everyone would want to be like.

What about Victor Bevine’s performance did you like?

Different convincing voices for each character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was just a fun listen from start to finish.

    Any additional comments?

I've been listening to a lot of Sci-fi because thats my scene. However, the first novel I ever read cover to cover was written by R.A. Salvatore and it was riveting to me as a teen and I could barely put it down. I remembered the author when I seen this book on a friends shelf and thought I need to see if Audible has that title. This is the origin story of a very fun character and it is a very fun great read I'm excited to read the rest in this series and to follow the adventures of Drizzt Do'Urden.

"Victor Bevine should get 10 stars."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

These three books have long been a favorite of mine and I've wanted to share them with my wife, who does not have time to read. when these came out I was thrilled that they were out but a bit nervous as with anything someone cherishes you don't know how it will be relayed when presented in a new form.

Victor Bevine does a fantastic job of reading this entire series. you relays the urgency in the books just as well as the the drama, and tension. Just a fantastic narration of one of my all time favorite books.

    Any additional comments?

If you have never tried this series I urge anyone to start with book one and stick with them. the first book starts off a little slow but only because their is such a big world that needs to be created in your mind. midway through the book you will be cursing the times that you have to stop listening to do anything else.

"The First in a Great Series"

I first read this series nigh on to 20 years ago. A young friend insisted that I read the first one, and I was hooked. There are lots of "follow-up" books, but I think I liked the first three the best. The story of Drizzt is a familiar one for many. He does not fit the mold in his society, and he becomes an outcast by choice. He has integrity and a moral code that clashes on every level with that of his peers. The narrator does an excellent job of pronouncing odd names and words. The inflections and feelings that he uses add greatly to the experience. If you are a fan of fantasy, give this one a try. You will end up with all three.

"The beginning of a beautiful friendship."

I read this trilogy a while back upon my brother suggestions and I am happy I did. I look forward to the next two books because they were my favorite of the three. Drizzt is a great character and I love how he interacts with Guinevere. The world created by the author is very vivid and I can imagine it with great detail. This can sometimes be the fall of a fantasy book, but I believe the author expertly pulled this off in his dark elf series. I have also read a few of the other trilogies written by RA Salvatore and I recommend this author to all those who love a good solid fantasy book. No need to have a clue about the role playing aspect that has been mentioned in other reviews. I didn't know about any of that when I read the books and I enjoyed them immensely. Narrator does a good job.

    Any additional comments?

They don't call them dark elves for nothing. These are treacherous deceitful dangerous evil elves. Their only concern in life is getting to the top of the dark elf heap and they will go over or through friend and foe alike to get there.

    Except one. Drizzt.

He is different from his kin and this is his story. How will he cope in such a civilization? How can he survive in this ultimate Machiavellian of worlds?

Read and find out for it is a good tale well read.

This is an interesting world with it's own set of twisted rules and customs. The author paints this dark world and culture vividly. Some of the characters can seem a bit one dimensional but then again these are some pretty evil elves. I give it a solid 4 stars.

    "Great audio adaptation"
Where does Homeland rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty highly, I'm a big fan of the Drizzt books so finding them as unabridged audio books makes me very happy... although perhaps gives them an unfair advantage as they start high up the list compared to some of the others in my library!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Drizzt! I love the character! More fairly I have to say Zaknafein as he's very well portrayed by the narrator, with Alton De'Vir coming in as close second, the narrator does a fabulous job with his slightly insane vengeance.

    Any additional comments?

Really looking forward to listening to the rest of the Drizzt books I'm hoarding in my library now I've got some free time!

"My favourite of the Drizzt books ..."
Where does Homeland rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The author gives an unparalleled insight into the dystopian world of the Drow and is easily my favourite Fantasy audio book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Homeland?

So many ... the intrigue and outright war between the Drow houses, the Drow Academy, Maya Do'Urden (who seems to be a bit more of a character than I remember). So many!

Which character – as performed by Victor Bevine – was your favourite?

    Drizzt. Obvious answer but true.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    "Only on HBO" ;-)

I would listen to this again because I love a story about the underdog.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Drizzt, I like an underdog, he has so much stacked against him and yet he pulls through it all.
