Publisher's summary

A side novel set in the same world as the bestselling Ascend Online series that takes place between Ascend Online and Legacy of the Fallen, and follows a different cast of characters.

Sometimes, just being a hero isn't an option. Sometimes, you just need to get the job done.

Lazarus Cain is a member of the Grim Shadows, one of the Thieves Guilds in the city of Eberia. Unfortunately, Lazarus is having a bad day. Waking up in a torture chamber, suffering from amnesia, he'd be pretty much screwed if not for the mysterious, magical sigil burned into his chest.

Sometimes a really bad day should be shared with others, especially professional torturers.

Lazarus will need to use all his cunning and skill to work with his comrades, uncovering schemes within schemes, discovering that The Grim Shadows are not the only Thieves Guild in the city mired in conflict. What's more, the leaders of the other guilds, the Thief Lords, don't respond well to treachery...

WARNING! Book 2 is not the sequel to book 1.

Like many other reviews have pointed out, this book has a completely different story line with different characters. I really enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one but I was caught off guard during the first chapter when nothing made sense when I try to tie it back to book one.

The characters are very interesting and well developed. The plot is also unique and interesting. I have no doubt if you enjoyed the style of the first book you will enjoy this one as well.

Great book!

A great story! A great bridge to the second book! Lazarus is a great character. I can't wait to see how he develops on future books.

if you've gotten lost in an mmorpg

If you've gotten lost in an MMORPG before then you'll like this book. Reading the first book is unnecessary, the stories are nearly unrelated except for the prologue setup in the first book. It's like the Matrix meets Ready Player One. Reminds me of the time I've spent playing the different genres from D&D to Ultima Online to EverQuest 2 to LOTRO. The simple fun of discovering a story and upgrades without the cramps in your wrists from carpal tunnel.

A nod to BERSERK

The second the author made the main character slightly like Guts from Berserk.... I was in and loved every second from there. Both books in the series are awesome well worth the credits.

Another huge success

it was definitely a struggle to get into the new story when I love the first story so much but once I got a custom to the new plot that had developed I really enjoying it and all the twists and turns throughout the whole entire book it really makes me hope that there is more of this side Ark

Great book

Nice blend of future gaming of fantasy rpg that all gamers will wish for. It also confronts the aspect of human social interaction when normal life and death consequences are no longer a factor. It also provides aspects of frontier and societal building. There is also a great action. I know the review is a little cerebral and doesn't due the book justice. Trust me its worth the cost.

New Characters but same world. Great story
