Publisher's summary

Kat Richardson excels at creating vivid, fast-moving novels that blend urban fantasy with paranormal mystery. In Greywalker, Seattle P.I. Harper Blaine is viciously attacked and murdered - but after exactly two minutes, somehow she returns to life. Now she's seeing strange things all around her - dark visions from the shadow world - and living a normal life may no longer be possible no matter how hard she tries.

A great occult start

More books about the greywalker. A most enjoyable and uninteresting series. On to book 2

Not NEAR as bad as those other reviews...

What did you love best about Greywalker?

The concept is new. You still get a mix of the supernatural beings (there are vampires, ghosts and witches, etc) but also new things; and the main character's ability is new.

What other book might you compare Greywalker to and why?

Not quite sure yet. Haven't seen another character with her ability. Although she is a very tough female lead which I gravitate towards in the books I love.

What three words best describe Mia Barron’s voice?

A little mellow. Although Barron's performance is definitely not the best I've heard, she is also NOT the worst I've heard... Her reading can be a little slow at times, and her voice octave doesn't change much when it's a male character speaking, but she is fairly good at different accents.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like the friendship between Harper and her witch friend, Mara. It's genuine.... Mara seems very genuine and is actually my favorite character. There should be a book about her...

Any additional comments?

I actually love the fact that the main character ha s a ferret. I have one and hers is portrayed pretty true to life.

Narrator Mia Barron Is Being Strangled

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Someone please call the police... the narrator of this book is apparently being strangled. Well, actually it is a lot of

Decent

The narration wasn't that great. It was hard to discern the characters.

Whiny

I might have enjoyed the story more, but it was hard to get past the whiny voice of one of the main characters.

Harry Dresden meets Kinsey Millhone

Kat Richardson weaves a tale of good old fashioned gumshoe work mixed with supernatural complications. Our heroine finds herself unwillingly dropped into the world of the not quite dead, ghosts and energies the rest of us just do not see. This new ability draws her into situations she may be hard pressed to survive.

This audio book really made the miles go by quickly. Her tale is original and not predictable. Even the end held a surprise I didn't see coming. The characters grow nicely throughout the story.

I highly recommend this one with the caveat that some scenes may be a little much for small ears.

OK for First Book

The narration is adequate but not great. Mia Barron has a clear and distinct voice but a couple of character voices were very irritating. A teenager turned vampire seemed more like a preteen, whiny and such with no rebellious edge. I do think the narration was effected by the story and writing style. I bought the book having read a Greywalker short story. I could not tell if I liked it so I tried the first book in the series. It is rather dry with long expository sections explaining the "grey". It would have been better, in my opinion, to just let more things happen and learn about the "grey" as a by product of the story. The central character, is very stereotypical and frankly hard to care about or engage with as she goes about solving the mystery. Supporting characters, such as, Quinton, just appear and have the skill set she needs at that moment. Again cliched. I read other urban fantasy and tried this but I was disappointed as the book, to me, is very blase. Average.

Different and Entertaining!

I found the story pretty original and fresh. A very interesting twist on the supernatural. That is saying a lot considering how much sci-fi and fantasy lit there is.. It was a good listen, the narrator was good. I will buy the sequel.

Hard to get a feel for the "grey world"

What did you like best about Greywalker? What did you like least?

I liked the premise of "The Grey" world but didn't think the author gave a sufficient description.

What could Kat Richardson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Work on descriptive background.

Did Mia Barron do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Not really. Sounded like a 12 year old and cannot perform male characters.

Was Greywalker worth the listening time?

No.
