Last 3 hours

Ok book until I realized it wasn't going anywhere in the last 3-4 hours when it went from being a gamer fantasy to .... a virgins rendition of their fantasy sex life.
The last 4 hours had nothing to do with anything other than sexual relationships .... I guess if you are into that then great. Story line pretty much dropped off a cliff at that point

Great listen. Needs edits

I loved this story, well thought out, interesting concepts, good characters, and development, with the exception of some of the minor "party" characters.

The one thing that really bugged me was the stat listings after every chapter. While it probably looked good in the book, maybe with a picture like a baseball card, it is annoying to hear the narrator read it.

The only other note I have is that it's very much a series book, doing a lot of setup at the sacrifice of its own story arc. I hope the new one comes out soon, as I feel like I just finished half a book.

Good unclean fun

Mostly rpg grinding and adventuring. Less sex than I was expecting from other reviews and they are only in the last half of the book. I would not recommend this to someone looking for a full on erotica litrpg harem male fantasy thing (or elhmf for short) Wild Wastes is the best on audible until they get Empath Rising (please q_q). Fair Warning

I loved this book, however, warning, this book goes from normal to X-rated pretty quick!

Quickly devolves into erotica.

The book was fairly entertaining until it rapidly shifted from LitRPG to pretty crass erotica. If that's your thing, you'll love this, otherwise, I'd recommend passing.

Nerd loser is "master" to hot chicks

The hero is supposed to be experienced, tough, etc.... taking on a tough mmorpg and winning with innovative and unusual choices (or something) but really the whole thing comes off as a creepy nerd living out creepy fantasies.

A little to sexual,

The book was pretty good and I enjoyed the fights and interactions, just could have toned down the sexuality a bit, it becomes apparent later why one of the characters is so raunchy, but up until that reveal it just seemed to over the top and graphic.

Great concept, mediocre & cliche execution

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The initial concept, of someone serving out a life sentence in a VR RPG, was intriguing. I would have loved to see it developed further, but once the main character entered the VR world, there is no further development of that line. I can only assume that the author intends to come back around to that in a sequel.

Any additional comments?

While I can appreciate that a brief explanation of some game concepts might be an appropriate introduction for readers who had never played an MMO or RPG, even those readers don't need to be beat over the head with them. I think that if we were to cut out the detailed description of RPG concepts, stats, etc repeated throughout, the book would be better for it and about 25% shorter.

I could also have done without the borderline porn scenes.

One of the worst LitRPGs I've experienced

Main character is an unlikable pervert. The author attempts to give him endearing qualities by making him polite to the NPCs and a good tipper, but this isn't nearly enough to do the job. Even the narrator gets bed him a gruff and snide sounding voice.

The erotica was overdone, unexpected, and unwanted. The main character is a "literal" sadist.

The grinding an leveling was boring and the same over and over again. Other authors at least manage to entertain with the group be, but this author seemed to not want to make the effort. It was either kill an Ork or kill a Goblin, and there was never much suspense. Even the subplots, although showed some promise, went absolutely nowhere.

I highly recommend yo suggest this book to anyone you don't like and would like to see suffer.

meh

not very entertaining, not funny, and not a good story. way too much concentration on relationships and social stuff particularly comments about sex that didn't add to the entertainment value of the story. nothing special happened and the main character has exactly one gimmick which isn't very important. the prisoner thing was overplayed as if to imply that the main character is some sort of anti-hero.

Was not expecting that

As LITRPG's go the themes that run through this story are definitely more mature. For the first 2/3 of the book I was taken in by both the excellent writing, and performance. It has a grittier feel than other novels of the same genre which I found appealing. The main character has both an interesting back story, which is well fleshed out, and a relatable outlook on life considering his experiences.

The last few chapters took an interesting turn... what the blurb should probably include is that there are VERY strong adult/erotic themes with fairly graphic descriptions of sexual acts including BDSM and a threesome.

Just a little boring

The biggest problem with this book is the main protagonist is just not every likable. He comes across as a bit of a douche bag. Outside his love interests the story never really moves along. No antagonist to speak of.

Not sure...

Was enjoying the book, then it went into fantasy porn for over an hour before it got back on track. Going to give the second book a try and see how that goes.

Very interesting story line

My only quibble would be that sometimes the narrator is narrating a conversation between characters with a almost sarcastic tone which builds suspense when not needed, makes for edge of your seat listening during ordinary scenes
That said I love his voice very small town sheriff vibe which suits perfectly

disappointing

Promising theme that never really got going.
No significant storyline after the first couple of chapters, but if you want to listen to a game walk through on the same level over and over occasionally interspersed with cliche schoolboy sex fantasy, this is for you. Very disappointing.

sucked me in, yet left disappointed

This was my first book in the area of LitRPG, the start of the book was very promising, and started to get worse from there. the book was slow at times and repetitive and had far to much sexual fantasy to be taken seriously. while i enjoyed it enough to finish i do not think i will listen to the second book and have found much better LitRPG which have better writing and story lines.

No.

Story premise good.
Execution poor.
Dialogue excruciating.
Performance... not bad under the circumstances.
Sorry but that's my opinion. Others may differ.

Excellent narration & concept, poor execution

DON'T LISTEN LATER ON WITHOUT HEADPHONES, EVENTUALLY DEVOLVES INTO SMUT YOU DON'T WANT OTHERS TO OVERHEAR.

I enjoyed the beginning and the narration was great but the main character quickly becomes bland and vague with, ahem, 'Romance' taking the front seat far too often. Past about the first three chapters the various relationships between the male main character and the female characters drags the story down, Definitely feels like an MMO because it replicates the slow grind of next to nothing happening perfectly.

If you got nothing better to read and don't mind smut give it a shot otherwise you're not missing too much.

Fantastic

The premise was a little disconcerting I'll admit -- the main character is a prisoner who is being experimented on -- but I was hooked the minute I picked the book up.
The depth in the characters -- the flaws that are present & the natural way that relationships form -- was refreshing.
The genre of LitRPG seems to be books about guys gaming & grinding, it's refreshing to see a book set in an MMORPG which is about the people and their personal development just as much as their character development.
Definitely a must read for anyone remotely interested in the LitRPG genre.
