Story
They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.

It started as a simple heist. It went to hell from there. On a space station orbiting a pale blue sun, a package changes hands. Data too sensitive to transmit will be exposed for one brief moment. The client is paying a crazy sum - if the job is clean. That’s not going to happen. Instead, the galaxy’s unluckiest crew of outlaws will have to put all their resources into salvaging what they can from the job. Even if it’s only avoiding blame for the fallout.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

The mission is simple. Escort an emissary to an intergalactic peace summit. Try not to get in the way. Lt. Magnus and his 79th Recon Team have certainly handled worse, after all. But when an explosion rocks the tower and sends everyone into a panic, Magnus and his asset find themselves cut off from the rest of the team. Worse still, a dying alien chieftain gives them a priceless drive of intel, marking them for death. The mission has officially changed. Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Publisher's summary
Galaxy's Edge, Part II contains Kill Team through to the end of Attack of Shadows.
Legion Dark Ops calls upon Chhun, Wraith, and the survivors of Victory Company to form an elite Kill Team of legionnaires in the aftermath of the Battle of Kublar. Their mission is clear: find and eliminate those responsible for the Kublar disaster.
Standing between them and their objective are a maze of corrupt Republic officials, a spy on the verge of losing himself in deep cover, and the Zhee - a murderous species that will stop at nothing. But the biggest threat of all might be the truth they seek to uncover - a truth that could ignite a revolution. And engulf the galaxy in flames.
Fleets collide in this audiobook in a moment-by-moment account of tactics, heroism, sacrifice, and the start of the final war of the Republic. The stakes have never been higher - and it's winner takes all.

Story
The Troubles. A quaint name for a horrific period in the galaxy's history. A period whose atrocities were superseded only by the terror of the Savage Wars that had come before. Almost no corner of the galaxy was spared a taste of terrible war, cutthroat intrigue… and remorseless death. In the aftermath, this battered galaxy now longs for peace and stability. The Republic, now reformed, seeks to govern by the rule of law. But no matter how sincere the reform, how earnest and well-meaning the ruler, some worlds refuse to place their destiny in the hands of others. Ever again.

Not sure what happened here.
The first book was excellent. It left me really wanting to know what happened next. Well, scratch the first half of this book. It's a good part of the story, and fairly well written for what it is, but it feels misplaced. It fills in some backstory at least. The second half of the book should have been great, but it was a plodding half-hearted let down to say the least. There isn't much to like about the second half of the book. We're introduced to laughably stereotypical new characters (captain Vampa (not sure if I spelled that one right... can't find an external reference and I don't have a print copy) is absolutely cringe-worthy). And even the few bits following Exo, which should be the climax of a major story arc, seem anticlimactic.
I'm still gonna stick with it though.

Listen carefully
I enjoyed part 1 and 2 of Galaxy’s Edge, but I find myself having to relisten to them both bc I get lost when they jump around time and sides of the battle and different characters. Granted I’m usually multitasking while listening, but I don’t mind listening to it twice bc I catch nuggets I didn’t the first time

Good military/sci-fi series
Good on the military side good on the science fiction side. Can't go wrong with RC Bray. I appreciated commonalities with current conflicts. it feels like the author purposely made the connections.

Disappointingly ridiculous space combat.
The authors need to keep the military tactics on the ground and in small squad actions. Scientifically advanced cultures with FTL and/or wormhole capabilities aren't going to conduct WW2 era battles with simplistic weapon systems. If you think Star Wars depicts realistic space battles, and that space ships need wings and can bank hard, pull up, etc., then you might find this really exciting. Otherwise, you will probably spend most of this book rolling your eyes. I had to relisten to The Expanse series to cleanse my palette.

Good, but got tedious.
So, it may be unfair to compare books to previous ones in the series, but in my opinion these Part II books just did not live up to Part I Book 2. Although Book 3 had some good moments with the original crew, when the narration was about Tom, "You are Tom", I physically began to cringe. Although it filled in some important details, I did not like that form of storytelling at all. And then Book 4 was pretty much just any overly detailed telling of a space battle. Although Bray did his best to keep it entertaining, in the end it was just too long and drawn out and I tended to completely zone out. And then, one of the best things to happen in the whole book was covered by a small reference in the Epilogue with no excruciating detail.
I hope Part III is more like Book 2 of Part I. I want more Pirates, Princesses, Aliens, A.I.s, Hackers and Robots.

Galaxy's Edge 1 was Solid, Number 2 Not So Much
In GE1, the first and second parts were both fun. I really enjoyed the second half of that book. So in this second book, GE2, when the first half wrapped up, I was excited for a fun, quirky second half.
But I was disappointed with the content. If the two halves were separate books, I'd rate book 1 favorably, but the second book not so much. Felt like any other military sci-fi fighting plot. And there's already too much of that out there.
I want pirates, AI, princesses, and weirdness.

KTF... loved it
So after listening to book 2, I went back to listen to the first book and then again listen to second book. The way that the 2 books are now integrated, total hooked me. I am a big Star Wars fan and these two book are now very very close to my most loved Star Wars books (Thrawn).
R.C. Bray voice feels so "on point". I feel I now need to look at other books that he has narrated. And i now need so start looking at military/war books as these books may have made me a fan.

Even better
I didn't think Jason and Nick could possibly top the first GE audiobook, but man, Part 2 is spectacular. I'm looking for stuff to do outside so I can keep listening. If you liked the first one, you'll love this. If you didn't like the first one, go back and listen to it again. I can't wait until this is on Netflix.
