Publisher's Summary

Despite NASA budget cuts threatening to put a sharp end to his career as an astronaut, British-born space shuttle pilot Jack Kildare knows without a doubt that his life will never be the same. Photographs snapped from the International Space Station reveal an alien spaceship in orbit around Europa, opening a terrifying new chapter in human history, and Jack finds himself in the center of a gigantic international effort to respond to the alien threat.

But when he is dismissed from NASA over a trumped-up security gaffe, Jack and his close friend Oliver Meeks combine their skills in an attempt to generate an innovative new development: a spaceship drive based on their observations of the alien craft's technology. With the unknown threat driving international competition and the entire planet's spaceflight resources thrown into the fray, the focus of attention turns toward one single goal - a ship capable of traveling to Jupiter to confront the alien menace, the Spirit of Destiny. Amid unknown entities pushing to destroy the project from the inside out, and enemies baying for blood, Jack finds himself submerged in a world of secrets, sabotage attempts, and cold-blooded murder.

Can Jack decode the secrets surrounding the arrival of the alien spaceship in our solar system? Or will his dreams of the ultimate space adventure be taken into the ashes with the Spirit of Destiny?

Surprisingly good story

Where does Freefall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was not expecting much from this story, but it was very good overall and I am looking forward to the second book in the series.

What didn’t you like about John Lee’s performance?

The reader tried his best with the difficult task of voicing a very large cast of characters. For the most part he succeeds, but there were a few painful moments; only a few and they passed quickly due to the writing.

Any additional comments?

The challenge with fiction is whether it can sustain belief and there were times when I had to decide to yield to the story. I am glad that I did.

Yet another Martian remake ( and a good one! )

What did you love best about Freefall?

Characters, plot, performance...the whole package. This is a fascinating beginning to what promises to be a strong series. I was disappointed when it ended, and am looking forward to the next chapter in this epic journey.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Freefall?

The last 3rd is highly compelling, with action, science and character development.

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

He is such a pro. It is fun to hear him work on southern US accents!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Some parts made me laugh and I did do some research!

Any additional comments?

What a book. Technical, yet character driven with a strong plot. This one kept growing on me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys technical yet action filled sci fi.

I really wanted to enjoy this

Listening was not enjoyable. The narration ruined it for me. First of the Texas accent was horrendous. Over all he was between Mr. Howell (Gilligan's Island) and Capt Kirk. I'm sorry to say this but it really upsets me when I waste a credit on a bad listening experience

The story itself was pretty good so I may just read the rest of the series on my Kindle.

Trash

Did not like the language or the sex. I wanted a good old sci go story.

Really weak sci-fi.

More of a spy, CIA type of story. And it answers none of the questions it poses
