A great plot with a very good narration

"Forever Warriors" is the kind of book that you can't stop listening to (or reading, I suppose) once you've started - you just have to know what will happen next:)

In the first few chapters we meat each of the five teenagers that are the protagonists of the story; we find out that they are definitely different from people around them and we learn what peculiar talents they already have or just start to develop. Then we also meat the bad guys - and when we say "bad" we really mean "BAD"... And then things start to happen, the tale unfolds - and we are as much at a loss as to what and why is happening as the kids themselves. This forced ignorance on our part is a great trick, as we just have to listen on to get our answers, and we want them as bad as our heroes themselves. Thus the book turns into a great adventure, discovering both who the kids are and what they can do, and how they will cope with what's coming...

All the characters in the book, the good ones and the bad, are very well portrayed, 3-dimensional and relatable. Their emotions are complex and reactions to the events believable. Also, the mythology of the world - the ancient battle between good and evil and the take on reincarnation - is logical and quite unique.

The interpretation by Mr Mayer is very good; he does equally well both male and female parts. The pace is adequate and his reading clear, you'll have no problem with following the dialogues.

It's a must read/listen for all fans of fantasy.

A great listen, definitely want more

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I liked the reincarnation concept in this story. I thought it was a unique approach to the concept and made the main characters very interesting. I also really liked how the magic/powers were set up in the story. Basically, the author did a good job world/character building. The bad guys are REALLY bad and make for a great foil to the main characters. The narration is fantastic and really brought the story to life in my imagination. I really hope this turns into a series, I'd like to see more from this duo.

Unique paranormal dark fantasy

This listen was even better than I expected it. The idea of ancient warriors being reborn many times was unique. There are several main characters which made it a bit hard to keep them straight in my head. I had to pay close attention to keep up with who was who. There were five teens coming into their powers, a warrior mentor figure, a long lost father that can track new warriors coming of age, the brothers, and a scary Elder.

Narration was good and brought the story to life.

Character development was ok although I would have liked to learn more about each teen. I’m hoping there will be more books with focus in each one of the main characters.

The bad guys were truly crazy villains with no regard to human casualties. They thought nothing of just killing a whole city to erase their problems! They were truly outrageous bad guys!

The way things came together at the end was great and I really liked the way things wrapped up nicely but left an opening for something more... Hopefully more books in this fun world with teens that have amazing “talents”.

Fantasy

I have not read anything by this author but I read the description and it got me intrigued. I was not disappointed. After a slow start (for me) the story picks up.
This is full of action adventure, suspense and intrigue, I would highly recommend it.

Teenagers with powers

You discover as a teen that a group of 5 of you have powers that can change the history of a secret war that has been going on for centuries. Do you decide to fight or do you try to keep living your life? Do you see if you are a warrior that’s lived many lives or one of the few newborns that have powers no one has seen before? Great action and very believable characters.

Ancient warriors reincarnated as teenagers

This was a new author for me and it was the premise of the story that first drew me to this book, it seemed like the mix of ideas had a lot of potential and this did turn out to be the case. The author mixes some familiar ideas such as the mismatched group of kids gaining mysterious powers with an interesting take on the origin of those powers which are the result of these kids being the reincarnation of some ancient warriors who are locked in a struggle through the ages with another faction.

When you have a book like this with a clear ensemble of main characters, how well they are realised is often the make or break item for that book, even more than the plot and the author does a good job with fleshing out his cast of young heroes without pushing this book down the typical YA routes. While the cast, both goodies and baddies work well, the plot is also an enjoyable origin story with sufficient levels of threat to push these new heroes to discover who they really are now.

The narrator deals well with having to provide distinct voices for a range of characters and his tone and delivery work well to enhance this book.

Overall, an interesting origin story, I will definitely look out for where this author takes these characters in any subsequent books.

Fascinating premise in a well delivered story

Warriors being reborn into different bodies and even genders spanning our entire history. What a great idea. The relationship dynamic this brings is fascinating for the existing warriors and we have a really strong mentor of a good guy balanced against a powerful bad guy in the background who is suitably menacing. His henchmen, the brothers, really steal the show in terms of being both bad and revelling in it. The newly developing warriors are also all really interesting and different enough that all of their backgrounds make for a great listen. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

I enjoyed the narration, it gave pace and the narrator has a great voice to listen too for both the story and each character which also brought the story to life.

Really good!
