Publisher's summary

In which our heroes are reunited a mere five centuries later… just in time for an uprising that threatens to destroy the Imperial Orb itself!

This is the story of the conspiracy against the Empire that begins in the mean streets of the Underside and flourishes in the courtly politics of the Palace where Khaavren has loyally served in the Guards this past half-millenium. It is the tale of the Dragonlord Adron’s overweening schemes, of his brilliant daughter Aliera, and of the eldritch Sethra Lavode. And it is the tale of four boon companions, of love, and of revenge... a tale from the history of Dragaera, of the events that changed the world.

Great world. Horrible writing style.

I love the world, but I hate listening to the narrator. Even the way the people speak can be very grating. I bring myself to read this with great difficulty just so that I can learn more of the wonderful world Brust has crafted.

Great characters, love the narration style, and deep themes with humor. Made me laugh and think. Interview at the end...clever

Audible (ô′də-bəl) adjective That is heard or that can be heard.

Can NOT be heard when you're an idiot that actually whispers and / or mumbles when performing a reading as opposed to reading aloud (which is the job you have been hired to do), The author has written "... he whispered", "... he said, under his breath" and do on.

Stillwell, you have ruined these books.

In any case, the story could shed at least half of the hours and still be a great story.

Somehow even better than The Phoenix Guards

This is a towering achievement - and here I mean the performance. We all know the book is great. The reading of it is no less than astonishing,

Sequel to Phoenix Guard, and just as fun!

Another fantastic story!

But readers need to understand it’s intentionally written like Alexander Dumas’ 3 musketeers. Why say it in 5 words when you could spend 100 flowery ones to get to the same point? This isn’t a story you can fly through, you need to slow down and enjoy the journey.

These audio versions are making my month

It can't be easy to translate Paarfi's style with all its asides into good verbal comedic timing, but Stillwell does an excellent job. Loved the book, love the audiobook. It's been a pleasure revisiting the world in this form.

Fabulous

Loved this book, as a comedy, tragedy and amazing adventure tale. Paarfi has another masterpiece under his belt, and the audiobook couldn’t be a more perfect reading.

Very pleased with the audible version.

Having read this series years ago, I wanted to introduce others to the wonderful world created by the author. This audible version was amazing. The narrator was perfect for reading this style of work and the form of humor in this series. Thanks so much for reignited my love for this series! Off to restart the Taltos series.
