Public Domain

These are old stories taken from public domain. You can get these free on a app on your phone. I did not realize till after I bought that these were free stories. The narrators are volunteer amateurs. Out of 29 stories I found four I could give five stars, 8 four stars, 11 three stars, 5 two stars and one no stars. Matter of fact this comes in two parts like most books and the whole first part was terrible. I also wish that Audible would list editors for their collections. Some editors are better then others. Silverberg is a great editor, while Horton is not so good. Whoever was responsible for this collection, should be man enough to put his name on it, so I know to avoid his sloppy work in the future.

Fetid Science Fiction Stories Volume 3

These stories, written by great authors but clearly not their best work, are subjected to cold readings making them flat and toneless. Thoughts and meanings do not flow. Men are made to sound like local yokels and women like breathless brainless boobs who will surely soon faint.

What a let down

I brought the audio book because it has my favorite writers. However it would seem these short stories were a collection of their worst.

volume too low

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would only recommend the written version (you can't miss with these classic authors). The volume on this title is almost 50% lower than on John Caro's books on Lyndon Johnson. I will probably not be listening to it and will buy the e-book version instead.

good selection

Hard to believe someone would write bad review about this. An excellent selection with very good narration. Normally quality goes down a bit with various volumes. Happy to say that is not the case this time. Can't wait for next set!

Favorite Science Fiction Stories: Volume 3

Would you listen to Favorite Science Fiction Stories again? Why?

No, I would like to read them but the narrators weren't very engaging. Very robotic

What was one of the most memorable moments of Favorite Science Fiction Stories?

The stories were great, I enjoyed the unexpected twists and turns.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrators were not engaging. I continued to listen because the stories lines were really interesting but it was hard to listen through some of the narrations.

Fun way to explore several authors

Where does Favorite Science Fiction Stories rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's ok. Many of the stories are quite engrossing and/or leave me wanting to hear more of a story (this is a series of short stories so some feel cut short)

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

The characters did not have the most amazing performance. The readers were just ok but the many of the stories were great.

Any additional comments?

This is a great set of short stories. While the stories are relatively benign I would screen it if you intend to have a child listen to it (some of it may be too scary or have things younger children should not hear)

fun for all ages

These stories were clearly written before we had much information concerning our solar system, that is to say written prior to 1965 or so. If you like classic stories of a habitable venus and populated mars than you will enjoy this. It is obvious that most of the stories must have been written at the outset of these authors careers and retain the charm of that novitiate stage. there is very little pretense in the tone of these stories and it is also endearing how clearly the speculative scientific knowledge of the period is displayed. What we demand in the plausibility of technological theory from today's science fiction makes no appearance in this anthology. The stories are created out of a time when 'the ether' and a jungle on Venus were just as conceivable as a bio-static solution to interstellar travel. While these stories may seem cliched at present that by no means negates the value they have in sci fi posterity or the much more timeless value of being entertaining thought provoking stories - just fun for everyone.

Great short stories

Many of the stories are genuine fodder for thought, with subtle background humor and irony. Very enjoyable listening.
