Another Great Black Library Book

A great look into the Adeptus Sororitas. This book delves into the fabric of what makes them the "Daughters of the Emperor".

Sustain

This is a story all about how a sister gets her life flipped upside down, this’ll just take a minute so sit right there how I tell about this sister and her faith in the Emperor.

Good story, a nice surprise twist and filled with action and suspenseful situations. A new appreciation for the sister saroritas.

Story would be good if not for the chauvinist tone

My biggest issue is the number of times the author uses extremely foul, derogatory language towards the lead female character. Words like Bitch and Whore are used way too frequently and becomes offensive. If the author's intent is to portray a misogynistic attitude towards women in the 40k universe then he accomplished that beautifully. But he completely failed to write a positive female-driven story to represent Warhammer 40k. GW should be more discriminate about the books they put out if they really want people to believe "Warhammer is for everyone." Because this book didn't represent a community that was accepting of women in this world. What woman wants to read a book where the women characters are called whore at least once every chapter? It is wholly unnecessary and could have used editing.

Too much expectation?

I started this right after listening to "The Flight of The Eisenstein" also by James Swallow. I loved "The Flight of The Eisenstein" it was an excellent sequel to the first three Horus Heresy book. I also love the lore of the Battle Sisters. So I figured this would be an excellent story. It wasn't excellent, but it wasn't bad. It did suffer what I call the "Star Wars effect" in that something horrible happens, but if it didn't you wouldn't have a story. The only thing is that it happens quite often. I feel like this could have been, maybe two chapters shorter. There were parts that made me SMH. Like why. Why would they do that?

As for the narrator, she did a great job voice acting the story. Although I would highly recommend you listen with headphones as when the character whispers, so does she.

Overall, I would read another story about Battle Sisters, by James Swallow or narrated by Emma Gregory. Maybe this wasnt the right mix for me.

Great insight into Pskyers and the Sororitas.

Great characters and pacing. Wasn't bored for a moment. The villains were good, but one was obvious from the start. That's my only issue. Otherwise good story, would like more.

Duty and devotion.

One would expect a story featuring the Sisters of Battle to be filled with pious dialogue, devotion to duty, and an unrelenting drive to hunt down the Witch in the name of the Emperor.

They would be correct in that assumption.

Following a squad of Sisters, you journey to a world steeped in the faith of the Imperium; you will witness the Sisters in combat and in contemplation, and you will not be disappointed.

Sound like something you might enjoy? Good, then may the light of the Emperor guide you as you embark upon your journey.

Sisters of Battle are terrifying

Great peer into the mind of a zealot. Though this isn't a one dimensional book overall (you can explore the boundary where virtue becomes vice well here) and the Villains are great, they're what makes me rate this book as high as I did.

I find Sisters the most terrifying faction of the imperium. They are near immune to reason, argument or negotiation.
An open mind is an unprotected... And these girls are pretty much as protected as you can get.

Emma Gregory is Such a Boss.

I’m a sisters player and the writing in this book really hit the spot. The true gem here is the performance of the narrator. She really sold each character to me and was pretty much always on point. Put together with the good writing, this story has easily become one of my favorites.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I loved this book so much. It gave so much insight to the inner workings of Imperial society, and how the ecclisiarchy treats the Adepta Soroitas. Easily added to my top ten reads.
