Publisher's summary

"All of us try to cheat death. I was just better prepared to do it than most folks."In the years since the wave of living death swept the globe, St George and his fellow heroes haven't just kept Los Angeles' last humans alive - they've created a real community, a bustling town that's spreading beyond its original walls and swelling with new refugees. But now one of the heroes, perhaps the most powerful among them, seems to be losing his mind. The implacable enemy known as Legion has found terrifying new ways of using zombies as pawns in his attacks. And outside the Mount, something ancient and monstrous is hell-bent on revenge. As Peter Clines weaves these elements together in yet another masterful, shocking climax, St. George, Stealth, Captain Freedom, and the rest of the heroes find that even in a city overrun by millions of ex-humans... there's more than one way to come back from the dead.

Ok Story, Good Acting, Horrible Editing

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, while not as good as the others, still entertaining

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

Horrible editing, wrong person speaking through out the book.

How Do You Top 'Ex-Patriots?' You Write This Book!

If you're a fan of this series, you may already own this audiobook. If not, or if you're still deciding wether or not to slap those Audible credits on the counter, and get into this series, this third review is for you.

If you've read my previous reviews, you already KNOW my thoughts on this writer and his efforts. This review is going to basically say the same thing, with a few changes.

First, the characters, both existing and new have greater depth. The story now deals with faith and magic in a more intricate method, and are both stronger players in the tone and direction of the story. The storyline is richer, and takes even better advantage of the world Clines has already established. It's fantastic, and the author steps up his game in this third effort. The zombies are badder, the heroes are better, the villain steps up the game, and the conflicts make for great reads, or in this case, listens.

I'm not going to give away any plot points here, as you know. I HATE when a reviewer gives spoilers about the work they review. It's as if the reviewer dips into all that hard work, and steals a small (or sometimes large) part of the spotlight so richly deserved by the author. So, no spoilers.

But I WILL finish by telling you the following:

It's one thing for author to write one good work - It's an ENTIRELY different thing to write THREE subsequent works in a series surrounding a constant theme, and doing so beautifully time after time.

Clines has done this, over and over in this series. If you love the zombie, superhero or modern magic genres, you're going to be satisfied, from the first in the series, to this third in the series.

Personally, I'm thinking this is the best of the three. How often does THAT happen?

Go ahead. Say it. You know the answer. Not very often, if ever.

So, Clines topped the other two books by writing THIS book.

Thanks, Peter. I can't wait to see where you take the series from here.

Finally Its HERE!!!!!!!

its finally here, i have been waiting for this book for over a year, and was afraid to never get it... but nope, finally its here, this master piece of a zombie series. Super heroes and zombies leads to a great book and a greater series.

Ex-communication had a fast start and a challenging one too, legion is there, and he is out for blood, new relations are made here and new characters come to life here as well.

Let me point this out, this the the 2nd release of this book, the first one was full of recording errors (a character would be narrated by different narrators) . but audible fixed this in less than a week, and i am amazed with you guys for that.. and then this is my 2nd review for the book.

Ex-communication was a bridge between Ex-Patriots and the next Ex book. as its action content was a bit less than the 2nd book but still, it was amazingly written, crafted, and produced. such a fantastic book.

To Peter Clines: please don't be late for the next book, waiting for it from now.

Narration has some glitches

First off, I love the "Ex-" books. I love the idea of reluctant, flawed humans who became "heroes." How this happened still hasn't been explained, but, really, who cares? This is up to Clines previous standards, a twist you may not see coming, new characters who are as intriguing as the regulars. I found myself sitting in the car not wanting to get out until a chapter end. Good stuff.
The only criticism I have of this recording is there are some clear re-dubbings where the characters' voices are suddenly different. It's a little jarring since the narrators have given each character very specific vocal pitches and speech patterns, It can be confusing in scenes with several characters - trying to figure out which character is speaking.
I wouldn't let it stop me from recommending this book, but listeners should be aware of this slight flaw.

Love this series!

Love the character development and evolving storyline throughout the series. A very enjoyable time listening on my long trip to work. I've gone through the series at least twice so far and it's just as good as the first time. I recommend to all those that love zombies and superheroes.

Really enjoyed this one

I really enjoyed this installment, I like how it ties into the first and second, and has some really good meat to it. That said, I do wonder if Mr. Clines goes a bit too far with the villan, it may be hard to top it later.

I really like that this has three narrators. FYI: If you are planning to listen to Ex-Purgatory, it does not have three narrators, it only has Jay Snyder. To be fair, Jay is really good, but it does lose a little something without this whole cast.

Best so far!

Super interesting story and the best voice performances so far. A lot is drawn together and foreshadowed. I loved it!

Not my favorite but still damn good

EX-COMMUNICATION is not my favorite of the EX-HEROES series thus far. That isn't at all to say that it is bad. When writing a series, you want to keep pushing boundaries and exploring new ground, and this book certainly did that with the exploration of magic in this heroic world, new religions, and the arrival of a new newbie superhero. This book also tied together a lot of loose ends from previous books, going more into detail about past heroes and exploring some of the secrets from the last several books. The narration team is fantastic, really giving depth to this rather large cast. My only real problem with this story is the time it takes to get going. I loved the initial introduction of "Corpse girl" in her early story flashback, but really, I didn't get a lot of tension or stakes in this story until about a third or a half in. That left the beginning feeling a little slow. Well written and well characterized, just a bit slow. At least in context of Clines' other fantastic books.

Another great one!

Loved the storyline and further character development. Corpse Girl is a great add to the line up. I recommended these to my friends.
