Publisher's summary

Jorg would be emperor. It is a position not to be gained by the sword but rather by vote. And never in living memory has anyone secured a majority of the vote, leaving the Broken Empire long without a leader. Jorg has plans to change that - one way or the other. He’s uncovered even more of the lost technology of the land, and he won’t hesitate to use it. But he soon finds an adversary standing in his way, a necromancer unlike any he has ever faced - a figure hated and feared even more than himself: the Dead King. The boy who would rule all may have finally met his match....

Spectacular. A very impressive work.

Wow! I just finished book 2 & 3.

As I read this series I was continually awed by the layer upon layer of connection between the main character's actions and his slowly revealing history (and future).

It was masterfully done! While not my favorite book, I have hardly been more impressed with a story so well weaved.

And the ending was perfect!

I say read the series. It is dark. The main character does many awful things--but in the end it all makes perfect sense. Each step in his story is purposeful and necessary.

Brilliant!

don't wait to read this one

I think the story isn't as strong here, although it does carry a similar mood and feel. the ending is good in my opinion. but the longer you wait to "read" it, the worse you'll feel about it. dive in directly after book 2 and you'll forgive a little sluggishness. I don't know why Amazon hasn't figured out auto capitalization the first word of a sentence when using swipe to text, but it's a pain.

Amazing

One of my favorite trilogies I have ever read. Each book is distinct but together the trilogy forms an amazing story. Even though it is set in the future, the world it describes has a very old world feel. It is, however, a little too graphic for the younger listeners/readers.

An emotional story.. good tho.

Loved it, had a down to earth feel that was easy to comprehend and enjoy... but sent me on a surprising emotional rollercoaster. Few story do that to me anymore and this one just creeps up on you with the feels. Sad, disgusted, it has it. Listen if you want to know what it's like to be truly evil for all the right reasons.

wow

what an ending to a great series. I wasn't ready for it to end. let people say what they will about jorg, but I think he was great character to follow. I enjoyed seeing a story from darker eyes.

Jorg at His Best

If you could sum up Emperor of Thorns in three words, what would they be?

Visceral, Methodical, Brilliant

What did you like best about this story?

In this story we see Jorg as an adult and Mark Lawrence does a good job of conveying the characters growth between the novels. At first I was a little put out by some of the story taking place 5 years prior. But after a while, you realize that the tale he is telling is from five years ago but his recounting is from the adult point of view. It is very well done. Overall a great book.

Which scene was your favorite?

"Dear Lady, I killed them from youngest child to oldest woman. And when I was done, I blunted three axes dismembering their corpses. I am Jorg of Ancrath, I burned ten thousand in Gelleth and didnt think it to many."

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!
