Publisher's summary

Born with a secret power he must hide....

Telryn "Trip" Yert has always been a little odd, with hunches that are too accurate to explain. Magic is feared and forbidden in Iskandia, so he's struggled his whole life to hide his eccentricities. As a boy, he was forced to watch his mother's execution. Her crime? Witchcraft.

Understandably, Trip wants nothing to do with the power that lurks within him, always threatening to reveal itself. Instead, he dedicates himself to serving as an officer in the king's army, to battling pirates and imperial conquerors. He longs to become a soldier as respected and renowned as the legendary General Zirkander.

But his country is in need of more than a soldier.

After disappearing for over 1,000 years, dragons have returned to the world. A few of them are willing to be allies to mankind, as they were millennia before, but far more want to destroy or enslave humans and claim the world for themselves.

There are few people left with the power to fight dragons. For reasons he doesn't understand, Trip may be one of those people. But if he chooses to learn more about his heritage and the power he can wield, he risks losing everyone he loves and everything he longs to be.

Surprisingly good!

I got this book on a hunch, having never heard of the series or author before. This is a great book, it may not be a masterpiece but it is entertaining and the narration is well executed. I highly recommend this as a good listen.

Lindsay Buroker's books are must read

Action, comedy, romance, characterization and story line are so well put together they are hard to put down. I have read her books over and over and still enjoy them immensely.

Excellent character dialogue

Found the humor between the characters the best I’ve heard in a while. The characters developed in a fairly smooth progression in particular for Captain Trip.
Caitlin Davis does a fantastic job in giving characters a distinctive voice and really enjoy how she delivers Rysha’s humor as dry as fits her personality being that she’s an academic book worm.

Disappointed

I got this because she the reviews of the book and its narrator were so positive, but I was very disappointed. The narration is the primary reason I returned it, which was so jarring I couldn't listen to it anymore. Maybe the story is good but it was too hard to tell. It was like having Google read something back to you, or reading from a teleprompter that only gives you 2-3 words at a time. Maybe the narrator is better on other books but this one was a miss.

Another Brilliant Adventure by Lindsay Buroker!

I really enjoyed this book. It has an original Dragon Blood feel to it. It stays true to some of her early style of writing, which I really enjoyed. There is plenty of intrigue and action. I am excited to listen to the rest of the series when it comes out in audio. I like seeing the old characters pop up, but am also loving the new characters, and am looking forward to getting to know them.

ya

The author is prolific . Anybody must admire her output . But I wish she put more effort in reviewing and improving. There are places where she spends too much time hammering in the backstory, while she does not put enough effort into putting the reader into the situation to see, hear, smell the "present".

Yes this book is aimed at a younger audience of limited experience but annoying that the author put her characters in harm's way just to hit the button of dangerous romance. Romance is at the heart of the story but wears thin with repetition of same anxiety without new info.

The reader is terrible at deep, bass voices and should avoid or improve. She tends to drop into a sing-song voice is tiring.

Spoiler:

When a soldier reports to commanding officer that there is danger of that soldier killing another one in a small company due to that magical forces, the commander is under obligation to protect the resource in danger rather than telling the offending soldier to "Buck Up".

VERY GOOD. WELL WRITTEN AND NARRATED.

Excellent, most enjoyable. It's s continuation of the Dragon Blood series and I love it that Ridges Zirkander, the hero and his wife, Sardelle of the previous series are mentioned. The Hong protagonist "Trips" Yurt and his adventures in this new series is fantastic. I am looking forward to the growing romance and his realizing his full potential in magic. The dragons are very awesome too. I am glad that Bk 2 is out now which is really good. Thank you Audible.
