Publisher's summary

Starfall: a world on the edge, where crooks and smugglers hide in the gloomy shadows and modern technology refuses to work. And that includes the TARDIS. The pioneers who used to be drawn by the hope of making a fortune from the mines can find easier picking elsewhere. But they still come... for the romance of it, or old-fashioned organic mining. Or in the hope of finding the lost treasure of Hamlek Glint, scourge of the spaceways, privateer, adventurer, bandit.

Will the TARDIS ever work again? Is Glint's lost treasure waiting to be found? And does the fabled Resurrection Casket, the key to eternal life, really exist? With the help of new friends, and to the horror of new enemies, the Doctor and Rose aim to find out.

Featuring the Doctor and Rose as played by David Tennant and Billie Piper in the acclaimed hit series from BBC Television. Written by Justin Richards. Read by David Tennant. Includes author interview by David Darlington of Doctor Who Magazine.

Critic reviews

"Tennant tells the story with such energy and feeling... This is a splendid combination of history ¿ a crew of pirates and a search for lost treasure ¿ and science fiction ¿ the pirates are aliens and the treasure will bring, you¿ve guessed it, world domination." ( The Times)

Love all Dr Who

Specially read by Tenant. Great Story, wish there was more about Rose because their close relation is one of my favorite things about Dr. Who.

My fav of Tennants narrations

Pirates and Doctor Who, how can you not love that! This is my favorite story of the tales narrated by David Tennant.

Tennant's voice talent really comes into this audio, as there are so many different characters and he does a different voice for every one of them. He will be truly missed on the show! I hope he continues with these narrations, as other past actors who have played the Doctor do.

Highly recommended!

Great narration of an okay story.

David Tennant brings the Doctor Who characters to life brilliantly. The writing was such that I believed this could have been an actual episode of the tv show and Tennant definitely didn't disappoint. My problem was the story, which just didn't do much for me. Understandable seeing as this is a loose science fiction adaptation of "Treasure Island" and I still haven't been able to get through that book. If you loved Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale and the Doctor Who tv show, this audiobook will be a slam-dunk for you.

As much fun as watching the show

Perhaps not entirely the most original story (after all there is another "black spot" episode in Doctor Who and there's only so many time you can do Treasure Island) but it's Doctor Who and it's David Tennant bringing the Doctor to life again along with showcasing his amazing range of voices so what's not to love? A great addition to the collections of 10th Doctor fans and Doctor Who fans in general.

Unique villains and an always clever doctor

What did you love best about Doctor Who?

I really liked the secondary characters - the villains and ordinary folk - and the world created in this story. I like that Starfall has a necessarily steampunk sort of atmosphere, and the story is creative and well-told. I was disappointed that this author didn't have the knack for conveying all of the 10th Doctor's mannerisms, and he and Rose both fell sort of flat as characters, which would have been very disappointing if not for the overall very good tale.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I kind of had figured it out, but in a way that was fun. Felt a little like I was on an adventure of my own with the Doctor.

Which character – as performed by David Tennant – was your favorite?

The Doctor, of course!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

one or two, yeah. It was short and I didn't want to lose the thread of it.

If you miss the 10th Doctor listen to this! David Tennant narrates in his native Scottish accent, reads the Doctor in his British accent & voices all the other characters. Delightful!

Absolutely brilliant story with pirates and great monsters!

A pirate story with twist upon twist, monstrous opponents and monstrous friends! I especially liked Rose's role and kind heart. Doctor's character is brilliantly portrayed and of course it was an immense pleasure to listen to David's voice bring it to life.

Tennant inhabits the tenth doctor and more!

Where does Doctor Who rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I chose this book as my first experience with an audiobook and was greatly satisfied. I believe it was because of a good combination or performance and story.

What did you like best about this story?

Regarding the story, I liked the directness and simplicity (the book is targeted at children), but still providing a couple of twists and mystery that let you wanting to continue. It also included steam-punk elements that made the setting entertaining.

What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?

By far, this is the absolute best element of this book. David gives very distinctive and discernible voices to each character, making each identifiable when they're speaking. It's also pure delight listening to the tenth doctor again, with his unique voice inflections and way of saying things.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Tennant's performance particularly moved me. The ending and its twist also got to me.

Easy and a lot of fun

I really enjoyed having this story read by the tenth Doctor because it just sounded more authentic and because Tennant is a great narrator. He has a variety of different voices for all the characters and they all sound very appropriate.

The story was great too. It was quick and easy and felt like a longer episode. There were quite a few surprises too. It wasn't really unique nor did it have that touch of melancholy that I enjoyed in the show, but it was definitely fun. A great story about space pirates, robots, murders and second chances.
