Publisher's summary

By working together, Henry Sato and Jason Booth have managed to survive their unwanted trip to Ludus, an experiment planet. However, Delvers LLC has made some enemies...if monsters, bandits, mages, criminals, bounty hunters, and even dark cults can be called, "some enemies."

After their latest battle, the two have been separated and must adapt or die. Henry in particular faces a trial by fire - perhaps literally - that may be impossible for him to overcome.

The two American men will face their greatest challenges yet while working as conscripted Berber Intelligence agents. But even while outnumbered, and most likely outgunned, the former veteran EMT and resilient IT programmer will be armed with modern Earth know-how.

Unknown horrors are descending on Ludus, but Delvers LLC won't go down without a fight.

Stand out Adventure!

Fantastic book. Great Writing and Jeff Hays truly brings it to life with his delivery. I can not recommend this audible book highly enough.

This should be on the top of every reader and listeners library!

Great story, but frustrating characters, makes for a great listen

As I said, I like the book and have listen to the entire series 3 times now. Every time I read it though I get annoyed with the character of Maureen. She is so full of herself and acts like she is doing wheat is best for the new MCs, but mostly is just selfish and self absorbed. Only listening to orders when she wants and tricking the MCs when it benefits her. However, after saying all of that I will say this series is very good at feeling authentic with its characters. Instead of everyone getting along and being a perfect team, the lying and selfishness feel more real for a world like this. So I hate some of the characters, love the story, and wouldn’t change anything.

Wow 😮 didn’t sleep until finished

Really if I could sum up this book simply I would say it was one hell of a Jaw dropper that will top my list for Repeat listening well at least until the next one comes out.

My humble regards to the Author for creating such a magnificent fantasy world.

beyond stupid

I've suffered trough the 1st and 2nd book, the 3rd one made me drop the whole story. The only thing that the book had going for it was the cover art and the world building, kind of. It was more fun when i knew less about it. Honestly, This is one of the few times, if not the first time i was losing interest about the world as i was learning about it. The list of cheap tropes is immense. I have countless specific, story related complaints, but I don't want to go into them because no1 reads overly wordy reviews.

In short. The pathetic attempts at drama and suspense fall flat because of how broken everything is, describing your characters as "beautiful" or "good" or "smart" won't do. You need to show that. And we haven't been shown anything of the sort. The "smart" guy made a pact with a divine entity without knowing anything about the world or the rules in it. Which is just a cheap way to remove agency from your characters and railroad them to wherever you want them to go. And then you go ahead and invent a world breaking "luck orb" to justify all the Deus ex machina BS you need to pull to have your MCs survive the trip. It's sad rly.

Another Good One, less of a cliff Hanger this time

Well honestly, after the 2nd book, I had no idea how this was going turn out. The 2nd book had a major cliff hanger that would make you want to rip your hair out. This book picks up where the 2nd one left off and it turned out pretty good; I'd say it was as good as the first. We see major development in a few of the side characters, plus- new characters, new monster, new powers, new revaluations, and more word building. And...Jeff Hays is an amazing narrator. I've listened to a lot of novels narrated by him; he does a superb job again with this one. This definitely ranks high in my lit rpg collection. Buy it... AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

Such a fun series!

I devoured the 3 books in this series. I loved the characters and the crazy premise of Blaise Corvin's world of Ludus. I thought Jeff Hays did a fantastic job on narration too! So can't wait for book 4 (and the spin off series too)!!!!!

Remember I do like this book before reading this

I wanted to love this book. I really REALLY wanted to love it. Book 1 and book 2 were fun and amazing and when I saw this come out I snagged it up without even reading any of the reviews or preface. Now that I have binged on the book I went back and looked at the reviews......and.......I just don't see it. Overall, this book is ok, just ok. Coming from a start like the first two I feel like this third installment is going a bit off the rails. There are so many things holding this book back that I'm going to break this up so its not just one wall of text that looks like a Rosetta stone

-Characters-
Almost all of the main characters are well fleshed out and 3 dimensional.....that said god almighty why dose every single character aside from the cat and the elf have to go in the "I'm so sad" or "I'm holding everyone else back" or "why cant I be as strong as x". Sure one or two characters can have something like that in a book to give character development but when almost every scene has someone talking about how weak they are or how they aren't suited to doing something and wish someone else was there to do it, to me at least, it got grating as all hell. This is made even more infuriating when Corvin makes every single character again with the exception of the elf and the cat god awful overpowered.

-Power level-
I pulled this aside to be its own little rant even if it is a bit of "character development" technically. For a book that is packed with fights and conflict......there is almost zero risk anywhere in the book. I have come to expect a bit of overpowered shinanigains from the two main characters, its kind of their thing to use weird combinations of magic and lateral thinking to make them way more dangerous than they should be. In the beginning of the book henry loses some of his magic and is told how hell be without it for a while. Awesome I thought, it will make him be even more creative, oh wait.....he gets it back like 1/4 the book later after it was made out to be a huge deal and now he has even more overpowered abilities. Jason oddly enough gets new powers......and they just kind of never come up aside from vaguely mentioning them twice right after getting them. As for the rest of the cast, I am far less understanding, I can understand if our main characters are going to be that powerful that the people around them need to gain strength too so they can stand with them. That said how A and Marina are done is much less growths in power and way more "Here have a you win button" and "You got power at a cost but not really" respectably. The main characters even talk a few times about how absurd some of the power is, which was somewhat funny but also a bit irking as it means Corvin is well aware of how broken he has written some of his characters. This kind of thing is highlighted the most with Tony's new flame. A very highborne noble shows up half way through the book, has zero magic and is not orb bonded. Another half a book later and she is second level orb bonded and fighting along side the team holding her own. The only real character that isn't absolutely broken in one way or another is the elf....and the only reason for that is that she is setting her sights on a weapon so powerful its probably going to end up being her own "I win" button.

-Plot-
This honestly wasn't terrible. When the characters were interacting it was the book I wanted to see. The humor is there, the world is expanding, and that's what kept me in the book. I do feel like a few times there were plot threads that could have been followed up on or scenes that got cut short when a bit more would have been fun.....perhaps even swap out some of that for the endless moping every character seems to do.

A fun popcorny listen. Excellent narration.

the story was a bit shallow, but ultimately fun. The pop culture references were personally a bit groan inducing, but overall still entertaining. If you want some power fantasy brain candy, this series delivers.

Another great book in a great series

I have really been enjoying LitRPG lately, these books stand apart from the reset in that they are 'LitRPG' and not at the same time. They have the RPG elements but with a SciFi twist that makes them really fun.
This book is as good as the other 2, still going strong and building the characters in a fun and interesting way :)
