Publisher's summary

When test subjects participating in secret experiments begin to mysteriously die, Cyrus Cooper, the youngest recruit of the "Coalition" - a secret law enforcement organization - is assigned to prevent the program’s lead researcher from being the next victim. But there’s a catch: The 74-year-old neuroscientist, Gertrude Waterford, has flatly refused any type of protective detail.

Cyrus goes undercover, taking a position as a personal assistant in order to enter the life of the brash, elderly scientist. When multiple attempts are made on her life, however, not only must Cyrus protect the headstrong lady, but he must also uncover the perpetrator of the attacks before it’s too late.

His job might’ve been easier if he’d been fully briefed on the nature of Waterford’s research. After working for decades to genetically trigger different paranormal gifts in her patients, she’s made some unusually powerful and extremely dangerous enemies.

Cyrus Cooper’s efforts take him from high-rise apartments to secret underground research facilities, with stops at forgotten rendition sites and forsaken mental institutions along the way. And as the threats grow in force and number, Cyrus faces a race against time and a war where all the players on the battlefield are anything but trustworthy.

Interesting and Clean

I really appreciated this story. Full of interesting psychological sci-fi, action and characters. I also REALLY appreciate the romance without gratuitous sex and great dialog without a swear word on every 'page'. That said, it's definitely a book for older kids or adults because some of the descriptions are a bit gruesome. I almost exclusively 'read' via audiobook (about 4-6 hours per day) and I did find the narrator's voice for the older lady to be unpleasant. Otherwise, it was good narration. l'll definitely be listening to the rest of the series & more books by this author.
If you like it, I recommend the Jevin Banks series by Steven James.

An interesting and well done story

I really enjoyed this story and think it was well done. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall narrative and character building. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun thriller that’s a bit different. The narration was quite clear and characters easy to distinguish.

Enertaining

Cyrus Cooper is assigned the job of protecting an elderly scientist. But how to do that when she refuses any and all offers of protection? Cyrus goes undercover to be her personal assistant. Let the fun begin!

I really enjoyed the narration of Dan Delgado.

Blah

To start, the narrator was blah. it may have changed the story with someone else. The story was blah with no excitement at all. Very predictable. Blah characters. The most interesting character was the bad guy, even though they were predictable as well.

Enjoyable ride, interesting twists!

I actually really enjoyed this book. It's the 1st in a series I will continue to read.
story was well laid out, interesting plot twists with enough action and story to keep you involved The audible was clear and the narrator really worked hard to bring different characters alive to the listener.

Solid and fun debut for the series. Can’t wait to read the next.

I really enjoyed this book, overall likable lead character, interesting plot and a nice twist or two along the way. I’m definitely in to see where this series goes.

Narrator brought a solid youthful energy to the main character and never took me out of the flow of the story (which happens to me a lot).

Overall solid first outing for this series and really glad I picked this up.

Clever Thriller

The story has a deep, intelligent plot with several major surprises. The narrator performs a wide range of distinct voices.

Fast paced and likable characters

Listening to an unfamiliar narrator read a previously-unknown author’s work is often a crapshoot, so I was happy to discover this engaging introduction to a new series. It’s a spy novel with a little sci-fi and very light romance thrown into the mix. The characters are easy to like—even the “villain.” Dan Delgado’s narration was on point, and he did a fantastic job with the various female characters, which is not easy for a male narrator. Although I was given this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review, I will absolutely use my own credit to purchase the second book in the series. I definitely recommend.
