Publisher's summary

Aliens. Armageddon. President Mel Gibson?

America is in trouble, dudes.

The country is in ruins after the president walls it up, sealing it like a giant prison. The rich get richer and the poor starve to death in the streets. Enter the Invaders, a secret society led by a charismatic and flawlessly handsome dude named Dave. Their mission: Destroy the forces in D.C. and take back the U.S.A.!

Starlet Richter is your typical transgender American woman. After years of watching the place fall apart, she’s gonna do something about it. Eric Tisdsale is Starlet’s long-lost love. He’s making a pretty mundane living as a pool shark, until one phone call changes everything.

Will they save each other? Themselves? The world? How about when they discover the president is not actually human, and there may be more of his kind hiding among us?

"The worst thing you'll hear all year!" raves the general population.

"Fake News!" cries D.T.

DAVE! is a science fiction comedy that features fast-paced action, pie-throwing clowns, nudists, and lots and lots of aliens. Equal parts Hitchhiker’s Guide and Coen Brothers, buy this audiobook now and laugh your way through the apocalypse!

Comedy in a Sci-fi Future Dystopia

This book really was hilarious. I wouldn't go for this book if you're looking for an in-depth sci-fi story or realistic characters. However, if you're looking for a good laugh and a relatively short and easy listen, then this book is for you.

The book takes place in a future dictatorship regime that all started with the election of Donald Trump to the presidency. With the recent election of Mel Gibson to the oval office, the country is in a downward spiral...
The comedy and characters were sometimes a little over the top, but for the creativity and the number of actual laugh-out-loud moments, it gets 4 stars. (Really more like 3.5)
It was entertaining and I'm glad I took a chance on it and gave it a fair listen.

The narrator was surprisingly good. Definitely earned 5 stars.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

One word: Wow! This book is hilariously unique.

DAVE! (A Novel from the Future), Part 1: The Invaders

By: Marc Richard Narrated by: Davis S. Dear

One word: Wow! This book is hilariously unique. I love the first person point of view and the fun characters I meet while listening to Dave! Part 1. I literally laughed out loud while listening; I listen while I drive so I got an extra perk with the looks I got from the other drivers!
This is a brilliantly written work of fiction; it’s a quick and smooth listen/read. The narrator did a great job too! His voice and tones were perfect for every situation. I highly recommend it and look forward to part 2! Overall, Dave! is a huge 4 Boundless star book. I loved it!

Interesting Concept for a book.

This is not usually the type of book I would read. I thought it was an interesting concept. There were a lot of neurotic thought floating around in this book. This book was not as funny as I thought it would be. The narrator was very good.

It's about as far out there as they come!

This was an enjoyable oddball story. If you are homophobic in any way I'd suggest staying away from this one. I am not so I liked it. The story is completely fantastical, unrealistic & utter science fiction. Except for the part where Trump destroyed the United States. That part is completely plausible & likely if he is elected. That's what made it good. I'm all signed up to get the next one!

Mr. Richard is going places..... Probably hell .... And they will be glad to see him.

I have to admit I thought this whole thing was a joke of some sort when I first saw it on FB. Then seeing FREE I assumed it was going to be horrible. I'm very pleased to say I was wrong on both accounts. It's pretty dang funny. I was reminded of Christopher Moore ( who I adore) and I can't wait to read ( listen to )more of Marc Richards works.

Ramblings Followed By A Crazy Story

What made the experience of listening to DAVE! (A Novel from the Future), Part 1: The Invaders the most enjoyable?

The most enjoyable part of the story is that it takes place about 14 to 15 years in the future and incorporates today's building political environment but adds hilarious insanity.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending left with a descent cliff hanger. Will the wall topple? Will the government get taken over? Did Mel Gibson's, aka Uncle Mel, face really slip during the TV broadcast and is he an alien? Many bizarre questions from an insane story which I hope will be answered soon in the next book.

Which scene was your favorite?

The main character and a transgender woman doing it on the beach, getting a pie thrown on them by a clown, chase the clown naked, and crowds of people stripping and joining the chase.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Carlton pulls down his pants to reveal a vagina.

Any additional comments?

Apparently rather than a hand shake it is the custom of the alien invaders disguised as Albanian humans to stick their fingers in your butt. This is just one of example of how insane this story is.

I would've given the story more stars if it weren't for the first hour of random political ramblings from random characters. Some of the characters from the first hour of ramblings were introduced again later in the story line so the background helped a bit. The first hour was still somewhat hard to sit through though. I'm not sure what the relevance was regarding the ramblings of Ad-Rock, a random 12 year old boy. Maybe he'll show up in book two.

David S. Dear did a great job narrating. He kept the character voices distinct and was very energetic throughout the story. David really kept the story going especially through the first hour of ramblings.

Don't get me wrong, even though the first hour was hard for me to sit through the story line really picks up towards the end. It really is kind of like a South Park episode. It makes fun of the crazy political atmosphere we are in, adds crazy stuff like aliens and Mel Gibson as president, adds some sort of movement to correct the political injustices, and throws in a bunch of humorous sexual situations. The audiobook is definitely worth a try as long as LGBT, sex, and language aren't an issue for you.

A short beginning

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this short book. It is introduced and written as people's emails/journals. It is a good way to get different points of view and have a little fun. The absurdity of some of the aspects (president) coupled with the reality that we are in these absurdities now make one think, cringe, giggle, and ultimately decide to have a beer. At least that was how it worked on me. Looking forward to the next one.

Adult Swim meets future dystopian comedy world

If you enjoy stories that read like an Adult Swim cartoon, this rather short (serialized) book may be for you. If you are not one who enjoys shows like The Family Guy, South Park, etc. I would not recommend it. The characters are goofy, the plot is light and weak, and the vulgar language is over the top excessive. This book is not for anyone easily offended by vulgar language or childish poop jokes.

The story itself is unique and somewhat humorous like “Agent to the Stars”, without the things that made that book entertaining for me. This book for me was all over the place and could easily be listened to by some with ADHD as it continued to jump around like a dog seeing a squirrel. It was difficult for me to focus or take the book seriously; although it is a comedy I still wanted more depth.

The book, like TV cartoon comedies, attempts to insult nearly ever people group or subject. It deals with gender issues, racism, illegal immigrants, etc. Again, if you are offended by this material, I would say this book is not for you.

The narration of this book was done by Davis Dear, which was a new narrator for me to listen too. He currently has a mix of book genres found on Audible, most of them shorter works; three hours or less. The audio was well produced and I could not find any artifacts such as pops, clicks, or swallows while listening. Mr. Dear was able to voice the different characters and their inflection quite well. He gave the book’s characters’ life and made them unique in their own way. I would listen to other audio materials by this narrator in the future.

A great listen!

If you could sum up DAVE! (A Novel from the Future), Part 1: The Invaders in three words, what would they be?

Funny, Different, Enticing

Who was your favorite character and why?

Carlton, his overall attitude and secret made "him" a character that i wanted to continue listening to!

Which character – as performed by David S. Dear – was your favorite?

Iron-Gut, the way he got his nickname and his overall view on events/life were hilarious.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Where "Making America Great Again" leads us!

Any additional comments?

The book was funny and overall very interesting. It keeps the listeners attention and makes you excited for the next part of the series. The narration was excellent and easy to distinguish between different characters. It also allowed for easy conclusion of the characters personality/background just by listening to the different accents and attitudes. *I was given a credit so i could listen to this book and provide an honest review*

Funny and disturbing view into a crazy future

Where does DAVE! (A Novel from the Future), Part 1: The Invaders rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is pretty close to the top, unfortunately it's a little short, but we'll see what the rest of the series has to offer.

What was one of the most memorable moments of DAVE! (A Novel from the Future), Part 1: The Invaders?

I love how sexuality and gender is treated in this fictitious future. Everything goes and nobody minds.

What does David S. Dear bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A great narration that was fun to follow and made it easy to listen.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I pretty much did (but that might also have to do with it being pretty short).

Any additional comments?
