Publisher's summary

Decades after the fall of Cyador, its survivors have reestablished themselves in Cigoerne, a fertile country coveted by hostile neighbors in less hospitable lands. Young Lerial, the second son of Duke Kiedron, lives in the shadow of his older brother Lephi, the heir to their father's realm. Lerial's future seems preordained: He will one day command his brother's forces in defense of Cigoerne, serving at his older sibling's pleasure and no more. But when Lerial is sent abroad to be fostered by Major Altyrn to learn the skills and wisdom he will need to fulfill his future duties, he begins a journey into a much larger world that brings out his true potential. Lerial has talents that few, as yet, suspect: He is one of those rare beings who can harness both Order and Chaos, the competing natural forces that shape the world and define the magic that exists within it. And as war finally engulfs the fringes of Cigoerne, Lerial's growing mastery of Order and Chaos is tested to its limits and his own.

Critic reviews

"Cyador's Heirs does not disappoint, building on the stories of the grandchildren of the great matriarch in the Recluse saga from childhood to early adulthood." (RT Book Reviews)

Another great L. E. Modesitt novel.

Modesitt is an outstanding story tellet. His narrator is also excellent. This book is well worth the cost.

One of my favorites

One of my favorit books out of the series. I seem to enjoy the stories linked to Cyador more than the stories simply involving white wizards.

Interesting story line - keeping it going...

Yet another coming of age story in this series -- enjoyed listening to it and am looking forward to the next one (have not chkd if there is a 2nd one with the same characters). It did not drag as much at the beginning as some of the others and the main character was not as whiny as some of the recent characters. ;-)

Good Turn

A return to classic Modesitt world building. Learn about the remnants of Cyador, three generations after the fall, who have settled in Hamor, predating the Empire of Hamor. Instead of a crafter or merchant, expect here to focus more about skirmishing and warfare. The world building makes it a great read for me.

Return to Excellence

Just when I was beginning to have my doubts about the longevity of this series, the author reinvigorates the series. The performance was as usual excellent, and I can't wait to hear more from this line.

A book for the ages!

This was an incredibly well written and well performed audiobook. The characters and the challenges they face are believable and thrilling. Started reading it and couldn't put it down.

If you're already familiar with the series you'll love this. If you like Brandon Sanderson, Harry Potter, Narnia this story will be perfect for you.

Engaging - one of Modesitt's best yet

What did you love best about Cyador's Heirs?

While some complain about the about the "fomulaic" plot, I prefer to appreciate a fresh telling of an age old story. Both this and the sequel are great examples of what Modesitt does so well.
