Publisher's summary

Titan was one of the nation's most loved and respected Heroes, until an infidelity scandal tore his image and family apart. After decades spent out of the limelight, Owen Daniels has decided to take up the mantle of Titan once again to try and make amends for his years away. Unfortunately, the Titan Scandal is still common knowledge, and no Hero team wants such a polarizing figure.

With no other options, Owen is forced to take a job overseeing a group of corpies, corporate-sponsored Supers who do rescue work...as long as there are cameras around. Between a team that doesn't want him, fellow Heroes who don't trust him, and a nation that might not be ready to forgive the sins of the past, the return of Titan could prove even harder than the scandal that drove him away. But Owen will have to push on, because his new city is far from a peaceful one.

A mysterious enemy is attacking Heroes and growing steadily stronger. An enemy that only the once-legendary Titan might be able to stop. If he can manage to stick around this time.

Very entertaining!... But...

The cursing actually took away from the story. If you're a follower of Super Powereds, you've grown accustomed to the language of college aged kids. However, in Corpies the characters are adult professionals. While they do curse at times, their regular language isn't constantly peppered with it.

That said, I still really enjoyed the book. The story was good and the narration was excellent.

Excellent!

Drew Hayes creates a world that rivals Marvel and Kyle McCarley absolutely nails his narration. As a performer myself, Kyle's talent astounds me. Enjoyed it just as much the second time through.

Damn fine writing

Characters keep you interested, The narration is on point, The plot keeps evolving.. I love it when you’re eight or so hours into a book, everything is starting to come together and you realize the book is just hitting second gear 🙂

Just amazing!

"The story captivates you from the beginning and gets better as it goes, definaly recommend it! " -- My daughter

Me:
Corpies is an excellent book that really plays on some social issues of today in a way that is engaging and revealing. The first such issue is with Titan and the scandal he had many years ago. There are some really powerful moments with Titan coming to grips with the damage he did, not to his family, but to society, when he ran away from the scandal. By the end, he comes to grips with this and really commits to making it right.
The second issue is similar to the issues present in the main series - classism. Sure, Powereds are looked down upon by everyone, but in this story Titan needs to work through his preconceived prejudices against Supers who did not go the Hero route. Titan's group of "Corpies" turns out to be a great group of Supers who do a great job for their job, and end up becoming quite a team.
The third social issue is society trying to figure out what to do with someone who was in a major scandal at the time of the occurrence which may not be such a scandal if the same thing happened today. Shifting acceptance is a major theme of this book and Drew Hayes does a great job of showing the conflicts in a graceful manner.
My daughter absolutely loved Titan from this book. I can see why as he is a huge muscular man with a bigger heart and even bigger problems that he works through. This book should be read between book 3 and 4 of the Super Powereds series at the latest, maybe 2/3 of the way through book 3 at the earliest.

Drew Hayes is incredible

This is by far one of the greatest series I've ever read/listened to. All of Hayes' books are great. Just hope it's not too long until the next one comes out.

Really Enjoyed the Story!!!

Drew Hayes has done it again bringing to life an amazing Super Story and kept me coming back for more. As I listen to the many audio books out there, I'm thankful Drew chose someone to perform the Story that has multiple voices and makes the book interesting. I've listened to all of his super stories and I hope he writes more. unfortunately I'm not interested in his current area of focus. If you come back to write more about the super powereds, I'll be ready and waiting. Great book!

Must read even though it's a spinoff

Let me start this review by first saying I’m not always a fan of spinoffs or short stories set between other books. I find the 1.5, 2.1, 3.2 novellas that authors do somewhat of a gimmick to nickel and dime readers especially if you must read these to understand the plot of the next book. With that being said though this is 20 hours of awesomeness. It’s not some 2 hour short story I’m being charged $10 or a credit for. I noticed there is a bit of conversation on when this should be read in the series. I read this after book three but I see others saying to read it after book two. The story coincides with the events of the main characters in book three so if you read it before or after you should be fine but definitely read it before book four. I want more stories with at least Owen as the lead and Hexcellent as his sidekick. Also Hexcellent’s final summon is amazing.
Kyle McCarley is a great narrator for these books.

dear Drew Hayes

yet another perfect gem from Mr Hayes.
I listen to your books like favourite songs, repeatedly, and choosing the title according to mood. I share them with friends and family. I hope you have more coming because I cannot get enough.
