Publisher's Summary

This box set contains the first three novels from New York Times best-selling author, J.A. Cipriano and J.B Garner's Clans of Shadow Series: Heart of Gold, Feet of Clay, Fists of Iron.

Audiobook 1: Heart of Gold.

My name is Frank Butcher, and when I got out of my truck to deliver the last package of the day, I never expected to get blown up by anti-magic zealots.

Yeah, you heard me right. I said magic. I didn't know it was a thing either.

Now, an ancient artifact is the only thing keeping me alive, and to make matters worse, that artifact is what those cultists wanted.

Still, I could have made a run for it, disappeared down into South America and spent the rest of my life on a beach. I nearly did it, but I didn't.

Why? Because the cultists have offered me a trade. Come to them, or they start killing kids.

Audioook 2: Feet of Clay.

My name is Frank Butcher, and evidently when you save the world, it comes back for seconds.

After I stopped a world ending apocalypse, my allies tried to cut open my chest with an axe. Kind of messed up if you ask me.

Thankfully, I've got a chance to return the favor. And I'm going to take it. Not because they're trying to magically reshape the natural laws that govern our planet. No, I'm doing this because trying to cut out my heart is not okay.

Audiobook 3: Fists of Iron.

Remember what I said about saving the world? Yeah, apparently the third time is the charm.

Turns out our little plan to stop the apocalypse, left the gate open for some bastards straight out of HP Lovecraft. Now they've come on through to try to turn the planet into an all-you-can-eat buffet.

That's not exactly my jam, so if I want to go on living here, I'll need to find a way to stop them.

My name is Frank Butcher, and one way or another, I'm putting an end to this once and for all.

Review of Clans of Shadow Omnibus

Wow! This is one of those treasures , action, adventure, romance, magic, a lot of the unknown, packaged into a nonstop, can't put it down, type of book.
I review books as a pleasurable reprieve from a tremendously busy life. I like it when I find a gym like this, you will too.
Thank you JB Garner, JA Cipriano, and Joe Hempel for providing this work in exchange for an unbiased review.

The Butcher battles baddies in Urban Fantasy

Frank Butcher is an everyday guy. A cat that just wants to do his job and get back home at the end of his shift. However, he gets caught in a battle that is filled with magic and hets his butt zapped big time. Near death, and desperate to save the innocent, a nice magic chick implants him with a powerful artifact known as the Heart of Gold.

Butcher gets up and suddenly finds out that he has some pretty cool abilities as a result of the magical transplant. This is the way to start a series. No waking up in a hospital finding out the world is gone, or having some delivery guy talk to you about being a wizard or chatting up all the great stuff about living in a hole in the ground. Blow a dude up, give him magic superpowers, and then pretend the world is Private Ryan and it is his job to save it.

This book series is filled with swearing, blood, gore, magic, violence, and enough action to make Bruce Willis crap his pants. It plays fast and loose with the conventions of religions, and makes no apologies for anything it does. This is a no holds barred tour de force.

The characters are amazing, and you will struggle to pick a favorite, for me, Molly was a blast, but Butcher is a bad grass mo-fo when he needs to be. Hard to pick a favorite, but easy to love them all. Nice thing, there is character growth. You see it over the course of the three books.

Hempel knocks the narration right off the rails. This guy can do action, battle, and then the quiet moments, too. I enjoyed listening to him as Frank, and he pulled off a perfect Molly. He is also distinctive with other characters, and has a pretty cool list of voices to use as he reads to you. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Thrilling, humorous series

This is an excellent series of audiobooks and a great value for just one credit. All three stories are action packed, full of humour, espionage, magic, battles, betrayals and have splashes of romance scattered throughout. The characters feel authentic: from, Frank the reluctant hero, to the stoic Abner and Molly, the crazy Irish warrior, you cannot help but become attached to them all, as they try at save Max (Gabriella’s son) and the world along with it. The narration for the whole series was extremely well done.  Joe Hempel was consistent with all the voices, gave the characters individual personalities, was brilliant at bringing out the sarcastic humour and brought energy to the story. I liked how this story progressed from Frank being trust unexpectedly into a supernatural world he did not know, or want to know, existed, to him finding the courage to be brave and selfless and working to save those he cared about as well as the world as a whole. This is a great collection, well written and narrated and definitely worth listening to.

Family First

I love Frank Butcher. I can relate to him. He is all about family and loyalty. The author took me on a modern day Godism.

Wonderful Story

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. This is a voluntary review. This set is the complete story. Each book stands alone but when you read all three you get the full picture. There is a lot of cussing in the book and this bugs me but the story is very well done. The story centers around a group of friends who are magic wielders. They are tasked with doing stuff to save the world. They have lots of adventures and meet many strange people in their quest. They ultimately fight the mighty battle which includes all of the gods and God against the old ones. There is a lot of humor and several HEAs. Enjoyed the story.

snark and sarcasm for the win!

Frank Butcher, a lazy delivery driver ends up being dragged into the secret supernatural world when he throws off the shackles of his laziness to protect his friends and family. he does it with snark, sarcasm and the occasional movie quotes. his friend Mr. Mossberg makes frequent appearances as well.

Oh, Frank, Frank, Frank... a heart of gold

I loved Frank. He was not only funny, Smart, a good man, but also loved his mom. What can I say, he won his way into my heart. He's not only a witty man, but he has some AMAZING one liners, that cracked me up though most of the book.
This series is action packed. and you start to go from chapter one, till the end.

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves magic, and a great story line.
The narrator, did a Amazon job! I can't see frank being done by anyone else.

Fast paced thrill ride

From the first words this story will grab you and run for it. If it wasn’t for the extreme use of foul language, I would highly recommend this story to all but the extremely religious. This story plays fast and loose with religion in general and if you are devoutly religious, no matter your religion, this book will offend you. On the other side, it offends all equally and is generally a fun romp through the world it has created. Prepare to laugh… a lot.

If the language was toned down… at least a bit… I could give it more stars but as is… not so much.

Joe Hempel did a great job narrating this story. The characters were well defined and the different accents unique.

From parcel delivery to saving the world

This set of books takes some fairly familiar premises such as a likable 'nobody' being thrown into events way beyond their comfort zone and discovering a new world in the process, but uses these ideas in an interesting and compelling manner to produce a series of books that are highly enjoyable, even when some of the 'twists' such as those in the second book were fairly obvious ones.

When we are first introduced to Frank Butcher, he is a former soldier working as a parcel delivery guy, mainly to support his movie collection, an interest that is presumably shared with one or both of the writers since the amount of references to Star Wars and to a lesser extent other movies is a little excessive at first and thankfully gets toned down a fair bit in the second two books. Shortly after we meet him, he finds himself introduced to a world of magic, including some warring factions that are equally flawed in many ways.

I am glad that these three books have been collected into a single edition as after the first one, they are very much part of a series more than they are books in their own right, however since the series itself is a strong one, you do not mind this at all and are glad to continue onto the next one each time.

Something that definitely helped to make this series an enjoyable one was the great performance by the narrator who helped to establish distinct voices and characters for all the recurring roles, from the stars down to the more minor supporting cast who might have only cropped up a few times. I hadn't heard anything he had read before, but would be happy to see his name on audiobooks I might choose in the future.

Overall, this is a well written and performed audiobook that I would readily recommend to anyone else who is a fan of the genre.

I gave it a try

Why oh why to narrators adopt a monotone voice and when you get to the action just speak faster - it just means that it is really hard to do anything but try and work out what is happening. I gave this a good go and perhaps the story gets better but the narrative style is turning me off which is a real shame

Action packed books with a great sense of humour

Would you consider the audio edition of Clans of Shadow Omnibus to be better than the print version?

The narrator is brilliant. We get some great one-liners as the main character meets the stories head-on and the narration really brings them and the characters to life. Really good!! In fact I'd say the perfect narrator for this type of book and certainly for Frank.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the normal guy turns into the hero/main character. I also like the blend of normal world with other things going on that this character is thrust into.

What about Joe Hempel’s performance did you like?

We get a brilliant sense of the main characters through the narration also a level of pace that makes you want to listen to the entire book in one go, and then jump into the next. The story is great and the narration had me hooked from the start.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did in fact listen to the first book in one sitting, and got into the next one. Unfortunately I had to go to work or I'd have sat at home and listened to them all. I was hooked. Great books!

Any additional comments?
