a fun read

the first read was fairly decent, adventurous and youthful, with a few missteps in terms of characters. the author clearly has gained a better grasp of writing in this sequel and as such, the characters and writing itself have matured quite well. this keeps the sense of fantasy and adventure but adds in a sense of growing up.
