Publisher's Summary

Humanity has been brought to the brink of extinction. Each night, the world is overrun by demons - bloodthirsty creatures of nightmare that have been hunting the surface for over 300 years. A scant few hamlets and half-starved city-states are all that remain of a once proud civilization, and it is only by hiding behind wards, ancient symbols with the power to repel the demons, that they survive. A handful of Messengers brave the night to keep the lines of communication open between the increasingly isolated populace.

Arlen Bales is seventeen, an apprentice Messenger in brand new armor, about to go out for the first time alongside a trained Messenger on a simple overnight trip. Instead Arlen finds himself alone on a frozen mountainside, carrying a dangerous cargo to Count Brayan’s gold mine, one of the furthest points in the duchy. And One Arm, the giant rock demon, hunts him still.

Short fix while waiting for more from Brett

Like his other novella's this is not an amazing work of stand alone fiction. However, if you're already steeped in the world and invested in Arlen from reading the main books in the series than it is a pleasant return visit. I wouldn't pay full price for it (or equivalent credits), but if it's on sale (or priced commensurate with its length) than its a nice jaunt back with Arlen.

It's Really Hort...

Any additional comments?

I got this while I was killing time waiting for The Daylight War to come out this month and it served it's purpose. It's a quick glimpse back into the world of the Demon Cycle, and I do mean quick. I wish it would have been just a little cheaper, other than that, it is worth listening to.

Bryan's Gold, The Warder Man, and Desert Spear

Would you consider the audio edition of Brayan's Gold to be better than the print version?

Yes. It helps when you hear the tones and variance in the voices

What other book might you compare Brayan's Gold to and why?

Non yet, I did not realize I got myself into a huge storyline with "The Warded man but totally worth it....get all books and read in order...ooohhh corlings

What about Pete Bradbury’s performance did you like?

His ability to use different accents and voice. Not monotone at all.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Horrific fantasy

Any additional comments?

Loved it...want more

Read after Demon marked

the novella fills in some story line for Arlen before he finished running as a messanger in the first book. This is my second read through since the latest book release of "The Core" the order I am reading this time around:
1. The Warded Man (Demon Cycle, #1)
2. Brayan's Gold (Demon Cycle, #1.5)
3. The Great Bazaar (Demon Cycle, #1.6)
4. The Desert Spear (Demon Cycle, #2)
5. The Daylight War (Demon Cycle, #3)
6. Messenger’s Legacy (The Demon Cycle, #3.5)
7. The Skull Throne (Demon Cycle, #4)
and then finally the new addition to the series...
8. The Core (The Demon Cycle, #5)

happy reading!!!

Love the Demon Cycle. know when to read this bit

once again Peter V Brett is spot-on with the demon cycle an amazing addition to the book series. I just wish I had known to read this novela during the intermission of the warded man comma before then continuing on with the rest of the story when Arlen is a grown man
