Publisher's summary

Jane Yellowrock is a shape-shifting skinwalker who’s always up for a fight - even if it means putting her life on the line....

The Master of Natchez, Mississippi has a nasty problem on his hands. Rogue vampires - those who follow the Naturaleza and believe that humans should be nothing more than prey to be hunted - are terrorizing his city. Luckily, he knows the perfect skinwalker to call in to take back the streets. But what he doesn’t tell Jane is that there’s something different about these vamps. Something that makes them harder to kill - even for a pro like Jane. Now, her simple job has turned into a fight to stay alive...and to protect the desperately ill child left in her care.

Another solid Yellowrock book

What other book might you compare Blood Trade to and why?

A lot of people compare Jane Yellowrock to characters like Anita Blake and Rachel Morgan. On the surface, they're all strong women with supernatural powers. Dig a little deeper, though, and you quickly realize that Anita and Rachel hate themselves, hate their lives, and have "friends" who only really want to have sex with them. Supernatural urban fiction is a pretty shallow pond; it's all sex and power.

On the other hand, Jane likes herself, likes her life, knows she could do better, but doesn't let her angst dictate her attitude. In other words, she's a beautifully written character with flaws and ugly bits, and a great deal of honor. It's refreshing to read a story about a character who doesn't just flounder from bad decision to bad decision.

What about Khristine Hvam’s performance did you like?

I can't say that I love her performance; she really hits the southern twang a little too hard; it should sound relaxed and laid back, but it sounds really hard and jarring. Other than her accent, though, her voice is perfectly suited to the character.

Well worth the credit.

Go Jane!

Would you consider the audio edition of Blood Trade to be better than the print version?

I like all the Jane Yellowrock audio editions better than the print version because, good as the print versions are, reader Khristine Hvam adds so much to the listen.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the intricacies of Jane's personality and growth as the books progress.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is a great reader, and this is up there with her best.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was hard to make myself stop listening, even when tasks were calling me.

Any additional comments?

I always cannot wait until the next Jane Yellowrock book comes out, and this one was no exception. Go Faith! Go Jane!

Love this series

I love the new characters that have been introduced in the last couple books. I would recommend this series to anyone who like a strong female lead character and adventure with a little romance and no erotica.

and we are off to Mississippi

Jane Yellowrock, our shape shifting skinwalker, is off to help the vampire Master of Natchez, Mississippi, with only a partial idea of the problem he is having with rogue vampires. Per usual, rogue vamps will be destroyed in this fast paced story.

You may think this is a familiar plot line because it is but as per usual, Faith Hunter takes the basics and turns it on its ear! Example: these rogues are not as easily killed as have been previous ones. The addition of Khristine Hvam's narration only adds to the story's ebb and flow. I follow the series because I love Ms. Hunter's writing and that each book is complete so you don't have to read them in order. Then there is the looming question of how she is going to twist the formula to make each book new and refreshing. As you can tell by my stars, she's done it again! Give just one of them a try and you'll be hooked on her books!

Favorite One So Far

I enjoy a series where the main character grows and develops as has happened in this one. All the characters are well developed and you learn more and more about them as the series continues. In this one we got to learn about witches and a new generation of vampires that are a lot harder to kill and have developed new immunities and characteristics - and naturally not the good kind. There's also the developing relationships between Jane, Eli, Ricky Bo and Bruiser, plus you learn a little more of Jane's early years.

The narrator did a fantastic job like usual.

Wow, Jane does it again!

Great to see Jane at it in another city with the same old crew, and nice to see some new characters (eg Sole). Good relationship between Jane and Eli and the Kid. LOTS of sexual tension between Jane and Bruiser and Rick. Not enough of Beast.

Tired of the Angst!!

Any additional comments?

I'm really really tired of the relationship angst it's like faith is writing a romance novel instead of the urban fantasy that this is suppose to be...get on with the story...and stop with the love triangle already...Jane is suppose to be a strong woman and confident of herself and her skills although socially inept at relationships but more and more the story is all about her angst ,about her relationship with her boyfriend and her attraction to another guy...it's like she turned into this insipid woman..wondering about her boyfriend..wondering what he's doing where he is, who's he with...if he's thinking about her...checking her cellphone to see if he called...urgggh! enough already...!..If i wanted to read a romance novel I would've purchased one instead of this book..! As it is I had to fast forward through some of the pages when she's thinking about rick or brusier just to get to the main story line..!

Jane Yellowrock starts to finds her family

Caution: Don't try to read the Jane Yellowrock books out of order. The emotional payoff won't be there if you do. She starts off ruthless, and with each book we see her start to make emotional ties to the people in her life. She really is the kid "raised by wolves". Lots of big guns, thrilling action, and snappy sarcasm, but this book we see her take on more of beast's protective side and start to admit that she has built herself a "family". Jane is no one's cliched feminine lead, and she takes some warming to. the series is starting to reveal some of the story's depth in a very interesting way - both in Jane's history and in the vampire political world. Solid, satisfying, and action-packed.
