Publisher's Summary

The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad.

After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera's Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire - no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?

    "Good start"

I really wanted to appreciate the view from the Imperial side and I did at first. Personally, the second and third acts sort of fell flat for me. Maybe I walked in wanting too much but I was hoping for a team coming together and instead I got wrapped up in minor conflicts. I appreciate the team and what it will become though

    "Not worth the money"

I own and have read/listened to 57 Star Wars novels. This is by far and away the worst of the bunch. The narrator was flat and choppy. Often it was difficult to determine which character was speaking and to understand the emotion. At times she sounded too fast, to sharp, and too 'perfect' to be a human and sounded like a computer voice over.

The good news is that the story itself, wouldn't have benefited from a more talented narrator. I struggled to make it through. The story was predictable, slow, lacked character development and didn't at all help you feel the characters. There was no connection between the characters trials and tribulations with the reader/ listener. The story lacked cohesiveness and seemed to be all over the place. I didn't like one single character or their roles within the operations. All together the book was boring. I would not in anyway recommend this book, author, or narrator to a single person.
Any other star wars book will serve you well.

"A thrilling tale from the Imperial point of view"

Inferno Squad is standalone story, all you need to be familiar with is the Star Wars films (including Rogue One). It spins directly out of A New Hope, as the Empire forms an elite squad of Imperial agents to deal with the remainder of Saw Gerrera's Partisans. Terrorism, moral ambiguity in a time of war, undercover Imperial agents, and lots of classic Star Wars action blend together in this thrilling story. The narrator is excellent, up there with Marc Thompson and Jonathan Davis.

Great Story and tie-in. Gavankar gives a great performance and the sound effects really take you there. Can't wait for the game!

    "Love It!"

I really enjoyed the fact that they had the main character of the video game do the narration. You can tell she loves what she is doing, and is very passionate about the story!

    "Inferno Squad Squandered"

I'm a huge fan of Star Wars novels. I love the voice acting and especially the music intertwined with the different sounds of the Star Wars universe. So when I heard Inferno Squad would give us a look from the perspective of the Empire AND set up Battlefront II I was excited. Unfortunately, this book misses out on what I think was most important. And ultimately falls flat.

The opening Act is incredible. It puts the listener in one of the most iconic moments of the Star Wars universe but you see it through the eyes of an imperial tie fighter pilot. From there, the book transitions to the formation of Inferno Squad, an elite group of imperial operatives. Unfortunately, this elite group goes on some of the most uninteresting missions of all time. If you think they're going to be going in behind enemy lines, hitting the rebels where it hurts the most, and getting into intense Star ship fights with their state of the art starship then think again. The majority of this book is the Squad going undercover, trying to find out where the Dreamers are getting their information to coordinate their attacks. It's drawn out, boring, and does nothing for character development. The main character, Aiden, is made to be a strong female lead, but by the end, she seems like someone who should have never been given charge of Inferno Squad. I actually am upset that I read this book now because it will give me a negative outlook on her character in the Battlefront II campaign. Hopefully the story in the game will be better. In the end, this book suffers from what some of the other Star Wars novels suffer from -- telling a story that has no impact on the reader's knowledge of the Star Wars universe. The voiceover were great for the women characters and confusing for the men, but she did the best she could. Skip this one if you can

"A brilliant performance of a stellar Star Wars Story"

Inferno Squad is a truly engaging and entertaining Star Wars story. Christie Golden manages to sell her Imperial protagonists as rational and empathetic characters in spite of their allegiances. There were several compelling twists, each pulled off with finesse. However, Janina Gavankar's performance is the standout of this production. Despite a few hiccups near the beginning, her interpretation of the material shows her earnest respect and understanding of the property, and her overwhelming enthusiasm for the work. You can almost hear the smile in her voice as she describes incidents of intrigue, action, and tenderness. I would absolutely recommend this production both fans of the Battlefront series, and Star Wars fans of any stripe. I fervently hope we get another Inferno Squad adventure before long.

"Awesome story about the soldiers of the empire"

At first I wasnt too sure about the narrators voice, certain parts I couldnt tell exactly which character was speaking, but by the end of the Novel I absolutely loved the story and thought the Narrater did an amazomg job at portraying Iden's emotions. This is an awesome standalone about the Empires special forces.. I cant wait for the video game tie in.

"The best New Canon Star Wars to date"

Most of the new Canon books under the Disney/LFL banner has been lackluster, a few have been good. This book is great. I can't recommend this book enough to anyone who wants a good Star Wars book.
