Publisher's summary

A side quest adventure in the best-selling world of Awaken Online!

Eliza's parents are relentless - forcing her to constantly take extra courses to prepare for college and medical school. Sometimes, it feels like her entire life has already been planned out.

Which is why she leaps at the chance to escape into a new virtual reality game, Awaken Online. What she wasn't expecting was to encounter a capricious god and his loyal "pet". Or to be chosen as this god's "avatar" within the game and forced to tackle a series of asinine quests.

Yet she just can't shake the feeling that there is more to the irritating god than first meets the eye.

(This story is intended to be book 5 in the Awaken Online series. It should be listened to after Awaken Online: Evolution.)

Another view of the world

It was pretty fun to see the world from another perspective. Takes place during the time leading up to book 3

Eliza is scary!

it's great to hear the backstory of Eliza from the start. you get to see some of the weight on her and that she isn't as innocent as she seems in the main book. she does something more terrifying than Jason ever has, like serious nightmare fuel. great story though.

Bagwell is a continual joy to read!

Travis Bagwell is one of the few authors I feel a joy toward any book he writes. while a different genre, i am reminded of Jim Butcher regarding consistency and quality.

Great side quest

Loved hearing the beginning of the water mage. Here's hoping she won't need to make more deadly mold cultures.

Painful Narration

I love the story, but the narration is abysmal. Most of the male characters sound the same, most of the female characters too similar as well and not feminine sounding. The painful part comes in with way too much sing song, whiny, or sarcastic tone and the same inflections & delivery no matter who is talking. If you take out the, "Robert said...", or "Finn said..." identifying the speaker, you would be very hard pressed to be able to know which characters is which. It would be great to see this series re-recorded with a narrator that has more depth of characters and doesn't make me cringe listening to for more than a few minutes.
