Publisher's summary

Isabelle Martinez was instantly fascinated by the sexy Coyote Breed she met at the bar, but her sensual flirtation with him was cut short when she saw the man who'd attacked her arrive at the bar.

Breed enforcer Malachi Morgan was entranced by Isabelle's mix of shyness and boldness, and he was determined to chase and play with his sensual prey. But he could tell she'd been hurt before by a man, and he vowed that Isabelle was now his to protect and love, even as if it meant going against her family and his orders.

Leigh's High Standards

Would you consider the audio edition of An Inconvenient Mate to be better than the print version?

I used to read all of the series and now I can no longer hold the books, glad it was on audiobook

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Inconvenient Mate?

thought coyote's were only bad.

Any additional comments?

I have enjoyed all of the breeds series and hope to continue to do so

Finally a mate willing to be a mate

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Rule. He got to see what Jonas goes through.

What three words best describe Briana Bronte’s voice?

Excellent with accents

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not plan to do so, but the book was not that long so I was able to.

not my fave

The narration is good. Just couldn't see much plot. I generally like the breed novels.

Narrator spoils story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, love all of the Breed stories.

What did you like best about this story?

Love the sensuality of the breeds and their life long committment to their mate.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I did not like the narrator's "male" voice. It was so contrary to the deep rumbling voices the breeds have. This one was high, whiny sounding. Total turn off!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No crying...laughs and warm fuzzies, and "hmmm, oh yeah" on the sex.

Coyotes Rock!

What made the experience of listening to An Inconvenient Mate the most enjoyable?

I've listened to several of the Breed series stories - and while this is novelette - it was quite exciting and enjoyable. In most of the Breed stories so far - the coyotes are portrayed as the bad guys. I liked seeing this aspect of their species traits - and how sexy they could be!

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Inconvenient Mate?

The initial flirtation in the bar at the beginning was well written and enticing. It certainly piqued my interest.

Which scene was your favorite?

Well - the sex scenes were REALLY hot! You've got to love that!

Classic Lora

Is about all one can say. There is so much left to the saga that it's good to have the odd shortie thrown in.

Such a crucial book for what’s to come

This mating heat reacted like it used to, so loving and hot. This was an amazing book with lots of new characters, showing family ties to the Navaho Nation. Loved that it had excitement, love, dreams filled and very hot detailed sex which I like so much. Can’t wait for more. It’s just as great listening to them after reading them many years ago. Great narration by Brianna Bronte.

Good in series, not as intro

What did you like best about An Inconvenient Mate? What did you like least?

Best: it was an enjoyable addition to the series despite the narrator

Least: the narrator read the heroine as a whiny, puling, weak thing.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

different narrator, a little more polish to bring it up to the quality of the larger novels, and a slight rework on the ending so that it doesn't seem as "deus ex machina" as a stand alone novel (in the context of the series, the ending does work and acts as a draw into the next story)

How could the performance have been better?

While I found the narrator to be a competent voice actor, with a decent tonal variety that allowed me to ignore the less pleasant qualities enough to finish the novel, her voice went nasal on a few occassions, and her reading of the heroine's voice especially was so tremulous that it was disgusting.

I really despised that. While it could be a valid interpretation of what was written, it was not in the spirit of the Ms. Leigh's writing as a whole, and was frankly a character-killer in that it made it very difficult to think of the heroine as worthy of her heroic status. A more enjoyable interpretation would have been the "stiff upper lip in the face of overwhelming adversity", or at least something that planted her feet on solid ground.

Could you see An Inconvenient Mate being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Movie, yes. It was actually short enough to translate well without having to drop anything of even mild importance. The entire series could probably make the shift to TV well, too.

Any additional comments?

This is probably not the best introduction to the series, but it is a good addition to it. One of the full-length novels would make a better introduction.

On the bright side, as a romance-themed series, the order of reading isn't as important as with a series that follows a particular character.

Some elements of the series:

The Breeds are a "bound by destiny" romance type, in the vein (pun intended) of Christine Feehan's heroes.

Ms. Leigh, however, does a much better job of creating different heroic types within her mold and different plots than Feehan has managed.

Each story in the series does further the development and timeline of the Breed universe.

Too short

Where does An Inconvenient Mate rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I rate this a little lower than the other books because the story was so abbreviated. We don't get to become familiar with the characters or their lives before it is just done. Otherwise it was a good book at all of this series are.

Would you recommend An Inconvenient Mate to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, but because of how short it is, I might recommend waiting for a sale.

One of my favorites of the Breeds Series

Short but sweet. This is one Breed who knows what he wants and goes for it. The Coyotes always have great character interactions with each other and the rest of the other groups. This novella helps build the overall Breeds storyline but does get a full romance in.
