Publisher's summary

Since Cassandra Graystone was a child and her family perished in a fire she knows and sees things other people don't - when someone will die or that a demon lurks beneath a human skin. She sees phantoms. Yet she craves a simple life singing out with her musician brother, Johnny, and caring for her elderly aunt and uncle; to be with her friends, Sarah, a psychic, and Walter, a clown in a carnival circuit. But when Sarah sees apocalyptic events in her tarot cards and demons are everywhere, Cassandra fears she's going insane or something terrifying is happening in the world.

Rayner, an ancient blood demon, lodges next door. He becomes obsessed with her. Never having felt pity or affection for a human before he believes he loves her, would die to protect her. “The demon realm gathers for the final confrontation between us,” Rayner warns. “The apocalypse comes. You and your friends must prepare.”

Cassandra flees that knowledge until an angelic being, Manasseh, appears. “Your powers will grow. You must fight for humanity's survival after the first wave is taken. Seek out others like you. Persuade them to join the battle. Only these can see and challenge the demons until the end when all eyes see them.” She doesn't want her life to change; doesn't want to be a nomad who battles demons. Doesn't want to be anyone's protector. Until a tornado flattens Sarah's house. Johnny's apartment. There are monsters maiming and killing everywhere. Demons persecute her and those she loves burn down her home and force her family and friends onto the road, as everywhere cataclysmic weather and signs of the end days make things hellish for humans. Cassandra and her friends can no longer deny their destinies.

I never would have believed it.

This was the first time I've been gifted a book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I had never heard of the author before this and feel that I would have been unlikely to have stumbled across it in my browsing.

Other reviewers have mostly got the plot down right. I'm not a Christian nor do I believe in Revelations or the End Times or Armeggedon et. al. However the author was not too preachy (which would have been a huge turn of) and the utter earnestness of Cassandra (aptly named) and her gang of daemon slayers made the book much lighter - even humorous - at times

The book is a set up with a cliff hanger ending and I will definitely purchase the sequel.

The most intriguing character is Rainer (sp?) a deamon with hope of redemption. You'll want to buy the next book to discover the path he takes.

The reader does a dynamite job that really brings the book to life.

I find it difficult to attach a genre to the book: Christian/Horror/Humor it's hard to say but if I enjoyed it so much it should have a very wide appeal.

In a bluntly honest review of this book I would give it a 4 1/2 star rating.

Wow, Just Wow!

A Time of Demons
This book is about a woman named Cassandra, who is sent on a journey for God. Cassandra is a fighter and a healer. Just recently , Cassie has discovered she can see demons too. Really ugly smelly Demons. Cassie has an angel guardian who teaches her the way to travel thru the end of days. The end of the world is coming & it is up to Cassie & her friends & family to help her thru this. Manasseh, Cassie's Guardian Angel helps Guide her in her trials and explains she will meet others like her on the way to the big fight. These fighters will be God's Army and angels will fight along side them.
The Demons are everywhere in the world. Disasters are happening everywhere too. Massive category 7 hurricanes. Earthquakes, Tsunami's and Super Tornado's too. The end is near. Cassie & her friends must get the non believers to listen & believe to save them. People are disappearing in alarming rates . The Demons torture them & eat them. One Demon, Rayner has even taken a liking to Cassandra and fights for her to his own death.
What an incredible imagination it took to write this book! I am just floored by it (in a good way). I really enjoyed this paranormal / sci fi read. It is a very long book, so people are really getting their money's worth and then some! The work this Author, Kathryn Meyer Griffith has put into this book is just incredible! The narrator, Wendy Tremont King does an excellent job with all the multiple voices. Her voices are spot on and very realistic sounding. The accents are fabulous! The author doesn't disappoint us. This book was so good, I found myself listening to it way past my bed time! Good job ladies! Just incredible! :)

A Time of Demons

Any additional comments?

This is a well written and played out book dealing with the chosen few and the christian ideas of the end of days as written in the bible.Had I known that 'god is good, repent now' was the main point of the whole book I may not have read it.I'm glad I did though,I enjoyed it thoroughly...even through all the praying. It was a good bit of fiction and I'd read more.Wendy Tremont King was a wonderful narrator.

Think -- the Book of Revelations

**I received this free audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.**

It took me quite a while to get through this one because the content was heavy. The narrator did such a great job that I was drawn in and caught up with the events. The story started quite slowly as characters and background were set up. Then it was full speed ahead and the suspense didn’t let go until the end. The story depicts a woman, Cassandra, who is set on a journey for God. Along the way there are demons, disasters, disappearances. Think the Apocolypse. Think good vs evil. SCARY!!!!! Excellent writing. Excellent performance. Recommended for those who want to reflect further on the events of the Book of Revelations.

Angels v Demons.

Would you listen to A Time of Demons again? Why?

Yes I think I would because I really enjoyed the story.

What does Wendy Tremont King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved the narrators voice, she really brought the story to life and changed her tone to match the situation. Her voice was pleasant to listen too and she really drew you into the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The end times are coming, are you ready?

Any additional comments?

Overall I enjoyed the book. It's an age old tale of the end times but the author made it her own. I loved all the characters, even Raynor!! The plot was well written and fast paced and it really makes you think. I can't wait for the next installment.

It lacks something.

In St. Louis, MO, the Graystones are musicians playing at a local bar and taking care of their elderly aunt and uncle. Cassandra and Johnny lost their parents and siblings in a fire when they were kids and ever since then, Cassandra has been plagued with a few supernatural powers: she can sense when someone is about to die, and (more recently) she can see demons (often disguised as humans). But now things are getting scary with more and more demons about and freak storms and accidents that force the Graystones and their friends on the road.

This book starts off pretty slow and stays that way for much of the story. On one hand, we get to know the main characters, especially Cassandra, pretty well. On the other hand, the long spaces between the bits of action were a bit tiring to get through as the characters are simply rehashing events and feelings we have already heard about. I place this book firmly in Christian Fiction first and paranormal fantasy fiction second. The only non-Christians in this book are the demons. While I understand this is a fiction based on the idea of Revelation, I was surprised that none of our non-demon characters were of a different religion, nor did any of our characters discuss any friends or family that were of another religious persuasion. I found this odd since our characters are musicians, fortune tellers, and circus clowns, all professions that at least rub elbows with a variety of folks. Plus St. Louis is a fairly large city with plenty happening.

Since there was lack of variety in religious backgrounds, all of our good guys were on the same page. This meant that the only conflict was between our heroes and the demons and that was pretty straight forward. This lack of differences meant no real conflict among our characters and this added to the dullness of the book; they were all on the same page. This also means that the character growth is limited to their religious take on the events they live through. The most interesting character was the blood demon Rayner and he is interesting because he has both internal conflict and conflict with his fellow demons as well as the humans going on. Unfortunately, his page time with readers is limited.

In short, if you enjoy Revelation or Christian fiction stories, then this might be right up your alley. There is some character development for our heroes and they do have to go through one travesty after another as the world approaches Revelation. However, for me, this book didn’t work. I like more diversity, which leads to situations where the characters face not only conflict with the forces of evil, but internal conflict and conflict with their friends and allies.

The Narration: Wendy King did a great job narrating this book. It is a quality performance with plenty of individual, distinct voices for the characters. She also has some great creepy voices for the demons.

Christian Fiction and apocalypse

This book had an interesting premise, and while well written and well told was just not my cuppa tea….This is the end of the world apocalypse biblical style…as in Revelations.  The story was very rich in detail….so much so that it made it incredibly hard to get through, to much description for things that really had no impact on the overall story.  I also found this somewhat depressing, the heroes of the story go through one travesty after another without enough good happening to balance it out…it gets tiring after a while.

Cassandra has been able to see things since the fire that destroyed her family, she knows when they care going to die, with the opening of the story the powers she has are starting to grow she thinks she is going crazy.  An ancient blood demon, Rayner bumps into Cassandra one night and he becomes obsessed with her and starts feeling things he did not think were possible.  He tries to prepare Cassandra for the coming events.  Cassandra flees this knowledge until the angel Manasseh comes to her and informs her that her powers will grow and that she must fight for humanity’s survival.

The narrator, Wendy Tremont King is a new to me narrator.  While I did not care for the story she did a wonderful job on the narration giving each character a very distinct voice so that you knew who was speaking.  It made it a bit easier to listen to this and I look forward to trying other audiobooks that she narrates.

Even though I did not care for this, the story was well written although I would actually classify this as Christian Fiction first and secondary would be Fantasy/Paranormal.  If you enjoy Christian Fiction and apocalypse stories along the lines of Revelations then you will probably enjoy this one.
