Definitive Ringo

This is military SF written by an author with military experience. If you judge books by PC standards, skip this one. It's violent, pro-military, pro-US, hilarious in places, and extremely satisfying. It's thick with rank, tradition, jargon, and tactical detail, but even if you don't like that it's still worth the listen just to get to the "Immigrant Song" scene.

Bad-assery

The first 2 chapters of the book are boring, but once you get out of those, it's awesome.

I prefer a straight fight!

If you could sum up A Hymn Before Battle in three words, what would they be?

Sci-Fi Military Action

What did you like best about this story?

Just a fantastic military sci-fi romp. It's got great characters, setting and pace.

What about Marc Vietor’s performance did you like?

The way he brought certain characters to life was great.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Moved me, no. Excite me, HELL YES! The final assault was fantastic

Any additional comments?

Can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Glad to be aboard

The book is well paced, well written, and just a joy to experience. I am glad my buddy recommended this to me after I turned him on to the Ender series.

Could not stop listening.....

In this whole series also......John Ringo is without a doubt, in my mind, one of the best science fiction writers currently plying the trade. I don't know if he grew up reading the masters (heinlien, clarke, asimov....) but I am hearing their echos in his writing. An absolute joy to listen to........... Science Fiction like it needs to be.......(again).

Not a bad listen, but he goes on a but

This is a pretty interesting book, but Ringo does seem to go on dragging the story out, if you get it for a discounted price its ok. Not as good as the Troy series of books of his.

Breath taking action and engaging characters

In a terrifying realm of plausibility. A glimpse into a world of alien life and human nature with surprising likable character cast.

0ne of the best Military space, alien syfi series

It was a ruff start for me, but once I acclimated to the writing style and cadence, I was immersed into that world.
The characters are well fleshed out.
Its not all military, its the interactions with the spouses, children left behind... when sent off to battle...
Im sure I missed some nuances, and will relisten later.. I listened to Martha Well's (Murder Bot) several times.. and got more out of it. G00D STUFF

Just Plain Fun

I listened to this book while I was recovering from the flu and it was amazingly fun. John Ringo delivers the story in a way which is satisfying for the sci-fi enthusiast the gun geek and arm chair generals alike.

Combined with the masterful reading delivered by Marc Vietor. While I wish there could have been a bit more of range in the voices Marc Vietor did an awesome job of delivering the gruff battle toughened voice of the main character and the click-clack sounds of the "Tchpth".

While I wish I could say I saw the ending coming I did not, however it was immensely satisfying. The action pace combined with intrigue that was woven into the story definitely has me coming back for more!
