Publisher's summary

Kevin J. Anderson is the author of 27 national best sellers and several books in the popular Dune, Star Wars, and X-Files series. Forest of Stars is the second book in his acclaimed Saga of Seven Suns series, which begins with Hidden Empire.

Early in the 25th century, humans ignited a fierce war with the hydrogues. Now the gas-giant planets, once a major source of fuel for Earth, are off limits, and the fearsome hydrogues scour the solar system, incinerating humans and the trees of the worldforest. As political unrest spreads throughout Earth's space colonies, a possible ally is discovered: an ancient race of water-based creatures. But is it too late to stop the war?

Forest of Stars is a breathtaking science fiction epic, encompassing the power of galactic politics and the poetry of private dreams. Audie Award-winning narrator Geroge Guidall voices each character, whether human or alien, with dramatic intensity in a work that seems written for audio.

Critic reviews

"Best seller Anderson turns up the heat in his second Saga of the Seven Suns installment, proving he has firepower to burn. He weaves action, romance and science with a rousing plot reflecting the classic SF of Clarke and Herbert and the glossy cinematic influence of Lucas and Spielberg....This saga soars." (Publishers Weekly)

Sometimes less is more

Book I was interesting enough to buy Book II, but that will be the end. I found there was too much going on, almost like the author wanted a cliff-hanger to end each chapter. Too many "boy loses girl, boy gets girl" twists to be believable. Not enough alien races, you say? Well, just keep reading and the author will introduce another.

Anyway, just my two cents worth.

It's fine, I guess.

I really enjoyed the first book, but labored through this one. Only one of the many storylines kept my interest, and the performance was not entertaining enough to to make up for the story. It's not so bad that I won't give the next one a try.

The Saga of Seven (very bright) Suns

I've loved the Saga of Seven Suns since book 1. This one is no different. Guidall gives a magical performance, and the story pulls you in and keeps you wanting more by the time it is over. I remember yelling "No!" in my car when the conclusion script started playing. Luckily, I believe there are 5 more books left, so I will be OK for a while.

Start at book 1!

good story not great. gets a little long at times.

can't say for sure if the receding has a couple of breaks in it or if it's my car stereo but it's a good story looking forward to the next book.

The Epic Continues...

And so the Saga continues and I remain enthralled. This book picks up the pace just a bit for those desiring a little more action and/or destruction as hostilities increase.

More players enter the fray as well as more races come from hiding or are made known, bringing the true extent of the battle into sharper focus. Plots thicken, as they are often wont to do, and character development marches forward.

There's not too much else to say without trying to summarize the book in some way. You should have read the first one by this point, this is another part of the journey toward the conclusion and for my party I continue to enjoy nearly every step.

Again, Excellent!!

Kevin J. Anderson is doing an excellent job with this series! The action and adventure continues "page" after "page" and does not slow down! The fourth book was published in June 2005, I hope Audible gets it soon! If you like Sci-Fi, you will really enjoy this one - and the rest in the series.
