Publisher's summary

When the enemy discovers their hidden home, Mirikami is forced to lead 117 Kobani ships in a desperate attack against 3,000 Krall ships and uncounted warriors. Armed with a 22,000-year-old computer virus, and sheer courage, they must disable every enemy ship and weapon. The last time this tactic was tried against them, the Krall eradicated the entire Olt'kitapi civilization.

That's just one foe the Kobani face. The PU president rejects diplomatic recognition of the new Galactic Federation, and diplomat Mirikami is ordered arrested for genetic crimes and for provoking Krall attacks on Hub worlds. To reveal the president's duplicity in a secret deal with the Krall leader, he accepts a life or death challenge fight with an old enemy, right on the capitol steps, with news cameras rolling.

Then, proving the galaxy remains a dangerous place, the huge Thandol Empire, a former Olt'kitapi enemy, forcefully announces that its elephantine rulers intend to annex the Orion Spur. That happens to be where both the Kobani led Galactic Federation, and Human Space reside. Naturally, the Kobani decline the Empire's violently phrased demands, doing it in their typically harsh and forceful manner.

In leading up to that confrontation, the Kobani learn the basis of the Empire's claim to Federation Space, and it predates the Krall conquests. The prior owners may have a claim. The Empire's initial punitive reaction to Kobani rejection reveals they have a pain causing nerve weapon, used for crowd control in the Empire. This mild sounding weapon proves to be devastating to those with organic superconducting nerves. Life on Koban could be wiped out by a riot control ship.

Another Impossible to Put Down Adventure

If you could sum up A Federation Forged in Fire in three words, what would they be?

Stephen Bennett continues to blaze a story tale with Eric Summerer's vocal talents in full detail. Unlike many other books I have listened to this writer and narrator are by far one of my favorites. I only wish the story could continue sooner, but reality is they can only create these works of art so quickly so I will wait until the next in the series is released. Thanks and congratulations to both for another stellar work.

What did you like best about this story?

The ability of the story to progress with new characters and a very realistic enemy.

What does Eric Michael Summerer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is by far one of the best narrators and adds a color to each character by his vocal shifts and repetitive use of those individual characters voices in rapid exchanges.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I would love to listen to the book in it's entirety but life limits how many hours I can listen uninterrupted. I do move to the car and continue the story the best I can as well as when I go to bed until I must turn it off and get some rest.

Any additional comments?

After a couple hundred books I can say Bennett and Summerer are in the top five of all those listened to.

contrived

The kobani are such amazing heros that find their way out of anything... so much so that it's a bit tiresome sometimes. Nevertheless, the interconnection between multiple story threads and extreme character development of relatively few protagonists in an ever expanding known universe is captivating enough to pull me along for the rest of the series.
