Kyle Tait is settling in for his flight home to Montana when a single nuclear bomb is detonated 300 miles above the heart of America. 77 Days in September follows Kyle and his wife, Jennifer, as they are stretched past their breaking point, but find in their devotion to each other the strength to persevere.

What is an EMP?

An EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) is a magnetic pulse that overwhelms, and thus destroys, all electronic devices exposed to it. It is the most serious threat faced by a technologically advanced society. An EMP can be human caused, through the detonation of a nuclear bomb high above the atmosphere, or natural, through a severe geo-magnetic storm. In multiple reports prepared for Congress, scientists predict the complete destruction of modern American society and question our ability to ever recover if we are the target of an EMP attack. Further, some predict the death toll in America in the aftermath of such an event to be in excess of 200 million.

About the author: Ray Gorham lives in the small farming community of Shepherd, Montana with his wife and five children. He runs his log-home business by day and writes in the evenings, on weekends, and whenever the weather keeps him inside.

Not Bad

What did you love best about 77 Days in September?

Joseph Morton, the narrator did an excellent job of reading the story and kept me interested in a story that was a little unbelievable in some parts.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Maybe a bit more on the main characters travels and maybe had a companion with the main character on the majority of the travel.

What about Joseph Morton’s performance did you like?

Joseph Morton kept my interest going with his reading. He did a great job of changing characters, especially the female characters. You could definitely tell who was talking by his change in voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had no extreme reaction with this book. Being a truck driver I knew the route the main character was taking to get to his home and the possible run-ins he would have. I was excited about the part when his wife had to defend herself and kids from the local idiot/crazy guy.

Any additional comments?

I am glad that the author put the weather as an element that the main character had to deal with, because that is something many author's of these types of stories seem to leave out.

Great book

What made the experience of listening to 77 Days in September the most enjoyable?

If you're looking for prepper tips with a story behind it, this is not the book you're looking for.
That being said, this book is a great story. Its main focus is the travel of one very dedicated average man trying to get home to his family across the U.S. The writer did a very good job with dialog. He wrote in such a way that listening to what was happening made it easy for your imagination to take hold and visualize the story.

Preachy - but an interesting hike

Would you try another book from Ray Gorham and/or Joseph Morton?

The overall scenario was intriguing - an EMP blast took out U.S. power, communication, and transportation, and a man has to hike from Texas to Montana to get to his wife and kids. But the occasional preaching and political bias made me want to scream at times.

Great Book

This book is a great story.... The main Character would not have been so dumb about the whole when I need to kill this guy part.... but a great story...

Good story, but focused on basically 2 people

This was well done, but I wanted to hear other people's stories too. What happened in other cities.
I appreciated that the couple stayed faithful to each other.

Exciting apocalypse novel

Not really a prepper novel, more like a never give up novel. My take away is don't travel far from home/family.

Post EMP truth.

Good story line, narrator was good for male characters, but bad at immatating female voices...
