The solar superstorm wasn’t supposed to hit Earth - the odds were against it. And yet, without any warning, everything changed. In a remote oceanfront town, life begins to spiral downward after the storm causes a global electrical blackout. In the not-too-distant future, during an unacknowledged mission inside the Syrian border, a government operative unwittingly triggers an incredible event that alters the course of society. Ripley's a tomboy at heart who has never met a stranger. Her plans were to finish her veterinary studies and take her family to the country, where life wouldn't be such a struggle. She thought the worst she'd have to deal with at the University of Maryland were the unwelcome advances and attitudes of affluent students, and the occasional East Coast hurricane. She never expected the sun to fall down.
Three people from different walks of life each experience the end of America. Cassy is a 33-year-old prepper and single mother, away on business. Ethan is a hacker and conspiracy nut living underground. Frank is a family man out camping with friends and family. When a devastating EMP attack in the middle of the night destroys America's infrastructure, they are propelled on an unforgettable journey across an ocean of chaos to reach safety...Safety from an unknown invader and from once-fellow Americans now hungry and desperate.
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well. Then one night Minalan is forced to pick up his mageblade again to defend his adopted home from the vanguard of an army of goblins bent on a genocidal crusade against all mankind. And that was the good news.
Jack Bunker vowed to never step foot on another battlefield. But the former Combat Engineer’s new peaceful life in the Colorado mountains is shattered after an attack takes out America’s power grid. When suspicious activity plagues the nearby high-security military facility, Bunker fears he’ll soon have another war on his hands. As the story unfolds, Bunker suspects a foreign invasion is imminent, leaving him no other choice but to somehow transform the mild-mannered townsfolk into military-grade guerrilla warriors. He knows if their small town falls, America won’t be far behind.
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.
Blake was never one for taking chances. He lived in a world of formulas and equations. A statistician in a controlled society where everything had become predictably mundane. That world disappeared the day the dead got up and began attacking the living. Now, the end is here. Blake finds himself fighting for his life in a world that is rapidly spiraling out of control. He struggles to keep himself alive and must risk everything to find his family.
The worst of nature and the worst of science will bring the human race to the brink of extinction. Master Sergeant Reed Beckham has led his Delta Force team, code named Ghost, through every kind of hell imaginable and never lost a man. When a top secret medical corps research facility goes dark, Team Ghost is called in to face their deadliest enemy yet - a variant strain of Ebola that turns men into monsters.
Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.
After a massive wave of disappearances, 26-year-old CIA analyst Everett Carroll finally believes what he's been told about the biblical prophecy of the rapture. But will he be able to survive the gauntlet of destruction known as the Great Tribulation? Seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven vials of God's wrath are about to be poured out upon the earth, and woe to the inhabitants thereof! Global currencies have collapsed, famine and plague have claimed the lives of millions, and the world has crumbled into chaos.
What if you woke up one day and everything you ever knew had gone? The people you encounter want to take everything you have - including your life. The cities you used to visit are reduced to uninhabitable ruins. There is no law and order and no government or organized society. Even worse, you have no recollection of how it got this way. Nor do you know who you are. Your friends and family are nowhere to be found. Are you a hero or a villain? Perhaps a nobody? All you have is a handful of photos of a wife and a daughter you don't remember and the will to live. That is the world before Zed. What would you do?
It is day one in the Wasteland for Zed - the first day in a nightmarish existence he could never have imagined. In every direction he faces hostile and feral survivors. Savage gangs rule the ruined cities and shantytowns, and their brutal leaders rule like feudal lords.
Zed has almost nothing left in the world, yet everyone wants what little remains. He must fight for survival but also try to find answers, to seek an explanation for the catastrophic world he inhabits. Is his family still alive? Is there anyone left who doesn't want to kill him to take what is his?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Would definitely recommend to fans of this genre.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Rave really stood out for me. She seemed to have to most growth in the story as a character from when we first meet her.
What about Neal Arango’s performance did you like?
Neal Arango's performance was quite lively and engaging. He voiced the characters very well, and made them all distinct so I knew who was speaking at all times.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The story was intriguing and filled with just enough mystery that I kept wanting to continue on to the next chapter.
Any additional comments?
I hope there is more to this story, as I would like to find out more about "the boss".

What did you love best about 15 Years Later: Wasteland?
I loved the part of the book where Zed escaped from the prison. The book was well-written and different enough to be interesting. Zed's escape was an example of being exciting and original.
What does Neal Arango bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Neal did a very good job of reading the book. The voices were good, but not too far over the top. His voice really became a non-issue which is really what you want from an audiobook. It was like I was reading it. Very well done!

While this book is set in a post-apocalyptical world, I really didn't feel this book is so much about survival (outside of typical fight/war scenes) as much as it is a mystery/action/thriller. Unfortunately... that's not really what I was looking for.
It did have some interesting plot twists and it was surprising at times, but I didn't really feel the plot was that believable and I had a hard time caring about the characters.
The narrator makes such a huge difference in my enjoyment in audio books. (I can't listen to ANYTHING Kevin Pierce reads! ) I was a bit worried at first when I started listening to this book. I was concerned it was going to be over the top like some of the old "Graphic Audio" thrillers, but I really warmed up to this narrator. I'm not sure that he would make my top 5, but I'm looking forward to hearing him read a book that I find more enjoyable to find out. Maybe he could re-record some of Kevin Pierce's work! Haha

This was a very enjoyable listen. The narrator did a good job in his delivery throughout. I always like stories where the main character is a more normal, person who can be related to vs. the ex-Delta Force type character. This one is even more interesting with the amnesia that he has to deal with. I definitely recommend this book if you like the dystopian end of the world genre - with no zombies. The author brings the characters to life in this one and the narrator does a good job of delivering it. The storyline is good as well, very detailed imagery. This is what I would imagine a post apocalyptic world would be. I look forward to future books with these characters in this hellish world...

The story. It was packed full of adventure and had a few twists. There are a lot of similar type books in this genre but I thought this was great.
What did you like best about this story?
I really liked how the main character wasn't an over the top, cocky, know it all. It made him feel more real.

I don't believe so, but he did an excellent job with this book

I just finished the book and thought it was enjoyable. It is a good post-apocalyptic without the zombies. It still has blood and gore and held my interest to find out more with Zed, I would recommend this book. The narrator did a decent job as well.
