The acclaimed best-selling classic of Holocaust literature, winner of the Booker Prize and the inspiration for the classic film Schindler's List.

In the shadow of Auschwitz, a flamboyant German industrialist grew into a living legend to the Jews of Cracow. He was a womaniser, a heavy drinker and a bon viveur, but to them he became a saviour. A stunning novel based on the extraordinary true story of German war profiteer and factory director Oskar Schindler, who came to save more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during World War II.

In this milestone of Holocaust literature, Thomas Keneally, author of Daughter of Mars, uses the actual testimony of the Schindlerjuden - Schindler’s Jews - to brilliantly portray the courage and cunning of a good man in the midst of unspeakable evil.

This poignant story of the lives of Oscar Schindler and “his” Jews stands as a stark reminder of the cruelty that occurred and the kindness and good that may sometimes be found in the most unlikely of places, and a reminder that this should never happen again.

Beautifully written and well-read, the story draws us into the lives of those who were most affected by World War 2. Having watched the movie when it was originally released, I always wanted to read the book and I was not disappointed.
