Publisher's Summary

A blue-eyed innocent on the outside and a shark on the inside, dressmaker Sophy Noirot could sell sand to Bedouins. Selling Maison Noirot's beautiful designs to aristocratic ladies is a little harder, especially since a recent family scandal has made an enemy of one of society's fashion leaders. Turning scandal to the shop's advantage requires every iota of Sophy's skills, leaving her little patience for a big, reckless rake like the Earl of Longmore. The gorgeous lummox can't keep more than one idea in his head at a time, and his idea is taking off all of Sophy's clothes. But when Longmore's sister, Noirot's wealthiest, favorite customer, runs away, Sophy can't let him bumble after her on his own. In hot pursuit with the one man who tempts her beyond reason, she finds desire has never slipped on so smoothly...

Good follow up...

I was slightly disappointed in this book. It was still a good book; in fairness. I would have included the sisters more in the story and Lucy who charmed us all in the first book, was relegated to a few references in this book. What I loved about the first book and missed in the second book was the relationship between the sisters. Good but not great.

Great sequel to a great series!

This book is the second book in the Dressmaker's Series, it's the sequel to Silk is for Seduction. It's best enjoyed after the first book as some of the original characters appear and have small roles.

Scandal is the story of Sophy Noirot, the second of the Noirot sisters, a gorgeous and skilled dressmaker determined to keep her shop afloat. Due to the events in the first book, the shop is losing customers and the sisters have made an enemy of a wealthy and influential lady. While Sophy is trying to fix matters, Lady Clara, one of the shop's best customers, is caught in a compromising position with a fortune hunter and runs away. Sophy and Lady Clara's older brother Lord Longmore give chase and the romance begins.

There were so many enjoyable things about this book. I loved the little historical bits prefacing every chapter, they lent a flavor to the story. The addition of the little scamp was a good choice as well and added some humor to the story. The banter is great!

I did miss the secondary characters. Little Lucy doesn't really appear in the story, and I don't remember the third sister showing up at all. One of the best parts of the first book was the relationship between the sisters. That doesn't really feature much into the sequel because a good half of the book is spent traveling away from the shop.

The narration is amazing, Kate Reading is a genius and does the voices so well, each person has a distinct speaking voice. Unfortunately there is a LOT of "he said" "she said" during conversations. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but when the narrator is reading in the characters' speaking voices, and then repeatedly says he said or she said in a normal speaking voice, it stands out!

Overall great sequel to a wonderful series. I will be buying the third one for sure.

brains and brawn get together...

She's the brains behind publicity for her family dress shop. He's the brawn of his rich family. When his family member gets in a sticky situation, she comes up with a rescue plan. This couple had terrific banter. Kate Reading's narration brings this book to life.

So Romantic and So Funny!

I listened to this series when it first came out; except I skipped this book. It seemed to get low ratings in the beginning, and though I had it in my wish list, I just didn't want to buy it. Then, it went on sale, and I thought I'd go ahead and get it. I'm so glad I did! Loved the characters - how can you not when Kate Reading is narrating. But best of all, I loved the dialogue. The hero/heroine had that chemistry where they could really banter back and forth. Very clever banter! Don't know how Ms. Chase comes up with it all - great plot, great characters, and great writing. My favorite of the series!

Thoroughly Enjoyable!

Loving these Noirot Sisters! And Kate Reading's performance is PERFECT! I love that Loretta Chase makes the heroes a little bit dopey and not "all powerful" - there are plenty of stories with perfect heroes and sometimes it gets boring. The Earl of Longmore is big and strong but not the sharpest tool in the shed. Sophy is sharp as a tack and very strategic in her thinking. Listening to these two banter -- and of course with the brilliance of Kate Reading's delivery - is absolutely entertaining. If you enjoy clever dialogue and witty banter, Lorretta Chase is your author and Kate Reading is your performer. Love the two together.

Witty amusing dialog at its best

What made the experience of listening to Scandal Wears Satin the most enjoyable?

With a dialog driven story like Scandal Wears Satin and other Loretta Chase stories, a good audio performance makes the printed words come to life. Overall, a funny highly entertaining book to enjoy in audio. I laughed out loud frequently and couldn't stop smiling hours later.

What other book might you compare Scandal Wears Satin to and why?

I love all Loretta Chase books and this "dress maker" series is similar to her others with great character insight and highly entertaining dialog. If you read her previous books in print it is well worth the price to hear them in audio as they become available.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Especially when multiple accents are involved and words less familiar to the modern vocabulary, the distinct voices and proper pronunciation featured in dramatic narration help keep the plot rolling as well as enhancing the listener immediate understanding and subtle insights often only descernable through vocal inflection. With phonetic writing the reader is forced to slow down to imagine how the accented dialog sounds losing the pacing of the conversation and some of its meaning and impact. This narrator is great with accents and distinctive female voices. Her male voices are passable but sometimes sound alike. Even so, her dramatization is excellent and brings the story to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely.

New author, new narrator.

EXCELLENT! I have been looking for another narrator to add to my favorites list. Really great narrators are rare as hen's teeth. Kate Reading joins my favs Simon Prebble & Rosalyn Landor. Can't wait to listen to more by Loretta Chase with Kate Reading. This was a terrific book. Sweet, funny, sexy and just all around great. Recommend very highly.

Great story, but to much he said, she said

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, there is a lot of talking between the hero and the heroine and halfway through the book I got annoyed by all the dialog distinguished by he said, she said, by the end of the book I was so sick about hearing another he said or she said that I wanted the strangle the editor who let an otherwise entertaining book be made annoying by this. It probably would be bearable in an book you read yourself, in an audiobook it is quite bad.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lady Clara, because she seemed most real.

Did Kate Reading do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Great job with the men, the women I was not always sure.

Could you see Scandal Wears Satin being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

I do not think it is movie material.

Any additional comments?

I am not ready for the third book of the series as an audiobook, maybe I will read it myself eventually.

Superior book

As the second book in the dressmaker series, it continues the wonderful writing of Loretta Chase, with the great pairing of Kare Reading as narrator. Thank you for the enjoyment given.
