Story
Take one bored princess. Make her the seventh daughter in a very proper royal family. Have her run away. Add one powerful, fascinating, dangerous dragon. Princess Cimerone has never met anyone (or anything) like the dragon Kazul. But then, she's never met a witch, a jinn, a death-dealing talking bird or a stone prince either. Princess Cimerone ran away to find some excitement. She's found plenty.

Grown-ups lie. That's one truth Beans knows for sure. He and his gang know how to spot a whopper a mile away, because they are the savviest bunch of barefoot conchs (that means "locals") in all of Key West. Not that Beans really minds. It's 1934, the middle of the Great Depression. With no jobs on the island and no money anywhere, who can really blame the grown-ups for telling a few tales? Besides, Beans isn't anyone's fool. In fact he has plans. Big plans. And the consequences might surprise even Beans himself.

"The countrified fantasy elements are great fun, and Mibs' tenderness towards her father and other storm-tossed characters is touchingly real." (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)

Story
The underground mine fires ravaging Pennsylvania coal country have forced 11-year-old Brigid Howley and her family to seek refuge with her estranged grandparents, the formidable Gram and the black lung-stricken Gramp. Tragedy is no stranger to the Howleys, a proud Irish-American clan who takes strange pleasure in the "curse" laid upon them generations earlier by a priest who ran afoul of the Molly Maguires. The weight of this legacy rests heavily on a new generation, when Brigid, already struggling to keep her family together, makes a grisly discovery in a long-abandoned bootleg mine shaft.

A Fun Family Listen for Kids and Parents too
Our family listens to lots of audio books. The writing was exceptional and expressive. The story was funny and Interesting. The characters had depth that resonated with kids and adults. Parent and 4 boys, ages 5-13, agree this is a gem to be enjoyed, far above many of the more popular Kid/YA books. We look forward to the other 2 in the series.

Great story
I loved this story. It was sweet and engaging and creative. But the narrator’s voice was hard to listen to at times When she tried to change her voice to sound like other characters it got gravely and scratchy and, frankly, sounded really unhealthy. I preferred reading it so I got the whispersync version so I could go back and forth when I needed a break.
