Mariko Tamaki
A beautiful, offbeat novel from Mariko Tamaki, co-creator of the best-selling Printz Honor and Caldecott Honor Book This One Summer.
Montgomery Sole is a square peg in a small town, a girl with two moms forced to go to a school full of homophobes and people who don't even know what irony is. Her saving grace - her two best friends, Thomas and Naoki. Monty's obsessed with paranormal mysteries like ESP, astrology, superpowers, and the healing powers of frozen yogurt, but when strange things actually start happening to Monty, she realizes that the greatest mystery of all is herself. Thoughtful, funny, and honest, this audiobook will make you want to laugh and cry over a big cup of frozen yogurt with extra toppings and your best friends at your side.

Reseñas de la Crítica
"Montgomery's slow confrontation with reality creates a realistic, satisfying arc, and Tamaki's economical storytelling results in dimensional characters whose struggles feel viscerally real." (Publishers Weekly)
"While the themes are mature, the writing and characters are accessible for younger middle school readers; this would make a strong addition to most school or public library YA collections." (School Library Journal)
"Mariko Tamaki gives good misfit. In a YA field crowded with stock outcasts, Tamaki’s weirdos stand out for never being merely the sum of a few obvious quirks or emotions ... Monty and her friends could’ve hung around for another hundred pages, and I wouldn’t have minded a bit. (Quill & Quire)

"I particularly enjoyed the thoughtful look at the clash between queer families and fundamentalist Christianity." - I lifted this from another review because this is what spoke to me the most about this book as it was so beautifully handled with an emphasis on THOUGHTFUL. It obviously was written with great care.
The characters are beautiful and unique and yet drip real enough to remind me of friends and experiences from school to make it feel real. Mariko's words and the character's observations are so beautifully crafted you cannot help but be transported.
This short review feels like a school report, but I just loved this book and wanted write something real quick... I loved it.
And yeah - I cried at the end:)
Beautiful and unique - instantly made me a fan
