Publisher's summary

Saved by Hope by Jenny Lowe is a gripping memoir about one woman’s painful path to motherhood.

Born and raised in Utah, Jenny Lowe got married at the age of 19. The marriage ended in divorce, and at 30 years old, she married again. Emotionally and financially ready to start a family and with her biological clock ticking, the couple decides to have a child. After months of trying without success, they seek the help of fertility specialists. What follows is a series of unsuccessful attempts to conceive and the discovery that she has ovarian cancer. This book lets the listener accompany her on her emotional journey.

Jenny Lowe’s Saved by Hope is a must-listen for couples struggling to get pregnant. The author laments the fact that there is a stigma surrounding infertility, so much so that it’s not a topic discussed openly. This book does a great job of creating a compassionate guide to overcoming the humiliation of infertility. With profound honesty, she relates the fear, pain, grief, and hope that springs to life, only to be taken away a few days later. The writing style is casual and informative. The book opens with Emily Dickinson’s “hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul”, setting the tone for this well-written and perceptive memoir that should provide comfort to those who need it the most. Highly recommended!

A page-turner of a story, generous in suspense, humor, evocative detail, and with hope consistently mitigating tragedy

I have not personally experienced infertility or cancer, myself (let alone in the midst of a global pandemic), but I was unable to break away from this audio book for hours a day until I finished it. I found it impossible to hit the stop button as I’d planned at the end of each chapter, because they are all fairly brief, without a word wasted, and I could not wait to hear what would happen in the next. Saved by Hope is not only for those affected by infertility or cancer - it tells a universal story: none of us will get out of this life without disappointments, unexpected obstacles and even tragedies. Jenny’s story inspires me, even as I cannot imagine a human enduring all she and her loved ones did on their journey to eventual health, peace and joy.

I found that Jenny’s very pleasant voice, measured but natural and animated tone, flawless narration of perfect pace, and clear articulation kept me both gripped in anticipation and somehow soothed, even at times she was portraying distressing events and feelings that had my emotions stirred up.

Jenny does not linger on the distressing moments, but tells them completely while briefly, with just the right amount of detail, often including humor and interesting or surprising details. The book flows beautifully, captivatingly. If a noise in my environment made me miss hearing even a couple of words, I rewound the audio. There are no spare words, even as Jenny describes more events and struggles and pain, as well as beauty and joy, than I could imagine a person experiencing in the span of only two years.

Saved by Hope is a fast read/listen, well worth your time. Jenny somehow saves the reader from too much darkness despite vulnerably sharing so many difficult happenings. Just when it might feel like too much for a reader to bear, the story offers reprieve, humor, and, yes, hope.

Honest, raw & very needed

Having gone through infertility myself and watched many loved ones battle various forms of cancer… including close family dying from breast cancer… this book touched me on a very deep level.

I appreciated the raw honesty & how Jenny held nothing back … sharing in an entertaining narrative format, the true struggles she went through - giving voice to so many women.

I found myself laughing and crying simultaneously- it was very therapeutic!

Now i want to hear her husband’s side of things!

I wish her and her family alllllllll the happiness in the world - they certainly deserve it.

Much love & hope ;-)
Bonnie

Powerful

Jenny's story is heartbreaking; but her book is full of light-hearted, educational, and inspirational moments that made it easy to read and hard to put down. I learned so much about cancer, fertility, surrogacy, etc. but mostly I learned about how to keep a positive attitude and keep going when things seem impossible. I'm so grateful that Jenny shared her story and know it will help others in any stage of life.
