Publisher's summary

This program includes an introduction read by the author.

A fascinating biography and in-depth look at the work of best-selling writer and psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson, by award-winning author Jim Proser.

Who is psychologist, professor, best-selling author, and YouTube personality Dr. Peterson? What does he believe in? Who are his followers? And why is he so controversial? These are among the many questions raised in this compelling, exhaustively researched account of his life - from Peterson’s early days as a religious-school student in small-town Canada to his tenure at Harvard to his headline-making persona of the present day.

In Savage Messiah, we meet an adolescent Peterson who, scoffing at the "fairy tales" being taught in his confirmation class, asks his minister how it’s possible to believe the Bible in light of modern scientific theory. Unsatisfied with the answer he’s been given, Peterson goes on to challenge other authority figures who stood in his way as he dared to define the world in his own terms. This won Peterson many enemies and more admirers than he could have dreamed of, particularly during the digital era, when his nontraditional views could be widely shared and critically discussed. Still, a fall from grace was never far behind.

Peterson had always preached the importance of free speech, which he believed was essential to finding life-saving personal meaning in our frequently nihilistic world. But when he dismissed Canadian parliament Bill C-16, one that compelled the use of newly-invented pronouns to address new gender identities, Peterson found himself facing a whole new world. Students targeted him as a gender bigot. Conservatives called him their hero. Soon, Peterson was fixed firmly at the center of the culture wars - and there was no turning back.

With exclusive interviews of Dr. Peterson, as well as conversations with his family, friends, and associates, this audiobook reveals the heart and mind, teachings and practices, of one of the most provocative voices of our time.

Well worth the read

It seemed to start slow but the issues he bravely addressed....because he knows he is right....makes you want to complete this read for such a time as we are in now! Narration was fine but I was able to set read speed at plus 25%...and completed in about a week of commutes. Take a few notes here; learn to be a thinker and an educated layman prepared for blunting today's depraved leftist ideologies. Your kids are depending on it...they just don't know it yet.

Best book I've heard on Audible

Dr Jordan Peterson is a traditionalist. It doesn't matter if you favor the left or the right, Dr Peterson gives you mindful insights into how we became so divided and, perhaps, a way out of this mess. Best book I have ever purchased on Audible.

THANK YOU! Hearing Jordan Petersons Story Saved my

Hearing Jordan Petersons story has help to save my sanity during a very tumultuous period in my life. On January 8th of 2018 I was swore in as a city councilman and started asking questions in a small town in Kansas. That's led me down a path of unfathomable truth about the reality of corruption in government and the socialism machine. Jordan Petersons story has given me strength to keep going when I've lost nearly everything my business and more recently my girlfriend and son.

If you've followed Jordan, this book isn't needed

Very well done book highlighting Jordans achievements and putting together a useful timeline. If you're familiar with him then this book is just added information, but if you're not this is a great way to get caught up about him.

JBP

I guess the issue I had with this book was the authors need to attempt to fit JBP into the American political structure. I believe In doing so he missed showing why so many people see’s JBP as someone who awaking their true self. If it that was helping people understand the reason for religion or just how to think beyond the emotion of their life’s problems.

Amazing

I learned a lot about Jordan Peterson, a man I really respect. Some parts of this book were hard to read, but from the difficult subject matter, not the way it was presented; ultimately, it was worth the effort.

good portrayal of a great man

Follows a lot along the lines of 12 rules. JBP is such an honest open man that this book doesn't offer much new information.

Adoring adulation of alt right poster boy

I have seen Jordan Peterson's books in airport book shops and have causally glanced at titles such as The 12 Rules of Life and Maps of Meaning and have been intrigued as to who exactly the author is and what motivates him, as an academic clinical psychologist, to write thees bestselling pseudo self help books (over 30 million books sold).
The title of this book is "Savage Messiah" and, indeed, Dr Peterson has risen to messianic levels of adulation with his followers. A recent speaking appearance in London had tickets being sold on the secondary market for over £200 and there are Jordan Peterson branded merchandise available on his website including t shirts, mugs, leggings and pillows. So how and why has he risen to such dizzy heights of fame and fortune? The answer lies in this book by Jim Prosser whose previous works include the biography of US military heroes. Prosser has a black/white, wrong/right, good/evil view of the world. And he worships Peterson and all he stands for. Anyone who disagrees with Peterson is, in Prosser's view, a left winger and, according to Prosser, you only need to read The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.to understand where left wing politics will take you. This analogy is used repeatedly to trash opponents of Peterson and it becomes tedious after a while. It is also a little uncomfortable to hear of Prosser's enthrallment with Peterson's clothing, his diet, his family, his mental health battles and even his hair styles throughout this book. It is probably true what Prosser says that Peterson is the highest profile academic challenging progressive thinking in the world at the moment who is peddling this type of thinking that, whether he likes it or not, has made Peterson a poster boy of the alt right. Ultimately however, this book says more about Prosser's obsession and the legions of Peterson's fans than it does about Peterson himself.

A superb overview and analysis of Jordan’s life and work

The author has produced a great overview of Jordan’s life and work so far. A very positive story of Jordan’s origins and on where and how the various strands of his thinking inform his ideas and teachings. I cannot recommend this clearly read, entertaining and informative audiobook enough. A nice companion piece to Jordan’s 12 Rules and Maps Of Meaning audiobooks. Very enjoyable and deeply positive!

I thank god that Dr Peterson exists and one day so will you...

A compelling account of how this wise compassionate brave soul has come along at the right moment in history to save our civilisation from the ultimate evil that has infiltrated western culture to the very core, our universities need cleansing and we have a responsibility to sit in on every lecture to check our so called academics have stopped brainwashing our children, so they can actually face the realities of life, 12 Rules would be a good start...
