Karen Daily, recently divorced, lives with her two kids in a quaint suburb of New York City. She's teaching at a nearby elementary school, starting to date again, and for the first time in years has found joy in her life.

Mark Berman, Karen's friend and neighbor, wants out of his unhappy marriage, and so does his wife, Deb, but they have been staying together for their kids. Unbeknownst to Karen, Mark has a rich fantasy life about her, which has grown into a full-blown obsession. As rumors about Karen spread and a bigger secret is uncovered, she becomes a murder suspect and the target of a twisted psychopath.

Critic reviews

" Savage Lane shows, in grand style, how twisted the hearts of All-American families can be, and how those picket white fences can be dangerously sharp." (Megan Abbott, author of Dare Me)

What disappointed you about Savage Lane?

The writing is atrocious; and the plot is absurd. I only finished it because I was getting a good laugh about the various characters.

What was most disappointing about Jason Starr’s story?

The story lacked believablity. It centered around characters in Westchester County all of whom were struggling with marriage, troubled households and a desire to be loved. But it lacked any sense of reality; the writing was poor and most of the story lacked any real personality.

How could the performance have been better?

Narration was too fast and "clipped"; narrator showed little emotion, but in fairness he didn't have much to deal with.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No. Cannot recommend it to anyone.

Any additional comments?

This was one of the worst books I have ever listened to; I doubt if I'd listen to or read another Jason Star book.

A joke
