Publisher's summary

"I will come by train. I will wear a yellow bonnet. I am plain and tall." A heartwarming story about two children, Anna and Caleb, whose lives are changed forever when their widowed papa advertises for a mail-order bride. Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton from Maine answers the ad and agrees to come for a month. Sarah brings gifts from the sea, a cat named Seal, and singing and laughter to the quiet house. But will she like it enough to stay? Anna and Caleb wait and wonder -- and hope. Performed by Glenn Close

Great story

As a 3rd grade teacher, teaching about the pioneers, sequencing and history, this was an excellent story for the children.

Dislikes and likes

I loved the story. It had great detail and drew me in. One thing I would change is to make a sequel or to make it longer because I would’ve preferred to have details about the wedding and about their life happily ever after.

love it and the narration

As I listen it she brings the story alive and I can just picture the scene. It's a feel good store of hope, restoration and love in many forms .

A sweet story

I didn’t remember how lovely this story was, and how it manages to simply share the realities of days gone by.

Exquisite

This is an exquisite little treasure box of a story. I had heard of the book and the film, but had never read the story. How lovely.

Timeless classic with wonderful narration.

I spent a lot of my winter weekends driving my 11 year old daughter to out of town hockey games. We both LOVED this book. We loved the story and simplicity of those times. Great for those who are fans of Little House on the Prairie or Anne of Green Gablers. You can't go wrong with Glenn Close's narration either! Narration is so important in these audiobooks. This one is a winner.
