Publisher's summary

Dear Listener,
Have you ever gotten a letter that changed your life completely? It happened to me once. I still can feel the urgency that overtook me as I opened the envelope and the hunger I felt for whatever that letter would say. It seemed as if my entire life hung in the balance as I read.

Sam's Letters to Jennifer is a novel about that kind of drama. In it, a woman is summoned back to the town where she grew up. And in the house where she spent her most magical years she finds a series of letters addressed to her. Each of those letters is a piece of a story that will upend completely the world she thought she knew, and throw her into a love more powerful than she ever imagined could be possible. Two extraordinary love stories are entwined here, full of hope and pain and emotions that never die down.

I hope you'll enjoy this novel as much as I've enjoyed writing it. It's not often that you get a letter that changes your life. But it should happen to everyone at least once.

Yours,
James Patterson

Too Sweet for Me

Our heroine lost her parents, husband, baby ... and that is just the first 3 minutes ... we haven't even got to the SAD part yet. Hmm, maybe there is a reason why the author wrote the "review" instead of Publisher's Weekly.

I would expect that unless you really like a tear jerker, this book might be too sweet for you. It is a big change from his usual writing style. I'D STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU LISTEN TO THE SAMPLE BEFORE YOU BUY TO SEE IF YOU LIKE THE TONE. Please keep in mind that the music will follow you from start to end.

In any case, I gave the book 3 stars:
1. Even at James' worst, he is still darn good
2. It is a nice message of hope and the power of love
3. At 4+ hours at least he doesn't take too long

Beautiful

Beautiful book. So eloquent and touching. None of the happiness you can often find with love stories. Very real. All of this could happen in the real world. I felt wonderful and at peace after listening to it.

Sam's Letters to Jennifer

Audio book is performed very well. Story began and progressed smoothly. Excellent development of characters. Sam's communication through letters is a good idea and I may write something similar to my grandchildren. The ending lacked fireworks and cannons, but, was sincere.

Short and sweet but boring

This is your typical love story. It was short and sweet but predictable and boring. It will make you smile but will be completely forgetable.

Loved It

I really enjoyed this audio, the whole package, beautifully written and narrated. Reads like a biography which is very discriptive of the lives of two women and places involved. I was drawn into the emotions of both the older and younger woman. Beautiful piece of fiction definitely up to James Patterson's high standard.

Sam's Letters to Jennifer

I loved this book and thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the two different stories. I couldn't wait until Jennifer read the next letter.

A GRANDMOTHER'S AWAKENING

Being a dedicated James Patterson fan, I ordered this book with some trepidation. However, after listening to it, I now believe James Patterson to be a man of many levels and souls. Not only is he the best mystery writer of our generation, he can also write a book with a lot of feeling in it. This book touched the depths of my soul and made me cry (real tears), which is dangerous inasmuch as I listen to all my Audible books in my car. It also was an inspiration for me to do something similar for my granddaughter who is now 6. What better way to leave a legacy to your grandchildren than this. The only difference is I will probably leave mine in audio rather than written but who knows, with computers, I may just write it down. Anyone who criticizes this book either does not have grandchildren or has no feelings. I strongly recommend this book just don't look for Alex Cross or anyone to get murdered. Just open your mind and heart and enjoy!

Enjoyable

I decided to buy this book because I had been pleasantly surprised by James Patterson's Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas.

While it wasn't as good as Suzanne's Diary (which had more of a surprise at the end) and although it was perhaps a bit melodramatic, I enjoyed this book quite a lot.

Warm and Loving

I enjoyed the narrator and story but I was annoyed by the music. At first, I thought how lovely then at certain "high points" of the story, it was too loud and went on too long...and then too often. Sometimes it nearly drowned out the narrator. I soon started to resent the now familiar strum of guitar strings.
Sad and predictable but well written and enjoyable.
