Publisher's summary

In this fifth Sammy Keyes mystery, the normally unflappable heroine encounters a corpse, an arsonist, and an irate policeman - and her first real experiences with adolescent angst.

On a quiet weekend in the country, Sammy and her friends meet Lucinda Huntley and her 200-pound pig, and become involved in a centuries old family feud involving Lucinda's great grandma Moustache Mary. When Mary's pioneer cabin burns to the ground, it's up to Sammy to dig up the cause as the past collides with the present in this highly combustible mystery!

Superb, fun storytelling!

This is the favorite Sammy Keyes book for many Sammy fans, and it’s easy to see why. Sammy gets to be with her friends for a fun and exciting New Year’s weekend, exploring new places and meeting some people who will change her life. Wonderfully written and performed - absolute highest recommendation!

Don't do drugs, mmmkay?

Content warnings: Racial epithets for native Americans make a brief appearance, character uses a mental illness as an insult, the book implies that marijuana is a gateway drug to methamphetamine, and there are some borderline controlling behaviors being romanticized (male character ignoring a female character telling him to let her go). The portrayal of drug use and addiction is one dimensional.
As a kid, I loved this book. As an adult, I still like it and will be reading the series with my own kids (and having conversations about why stalking and harassing your classmates isn't okay... definitely didn't pick up on how creepy some of the stuff in the books is as a child).

Loved it!

Would you listen to Sammy Keyes and the Curse of Moustache Mary again? Why?

My daughter and I love listening to Sammy Keyes when riding in the car. This story was one of my favorites.

Have you listened to any of Tara Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, She is awesome!!!! I cannot imagine being able to do all of those voices. She really brings the characters to life

Great Reader Tara Sands

The reading was very animated & you felt like a child was really telling the story. The story was fun & suspenseful, but the subject matter- methamphetamine labs- was much too mature for my 7 & 10 yr olds.
