Publisher's summary

Abductions rarely go as planned...but this is just ridiculous.

Torn from the Faeling games on the beaches of Scotland, Quinn MacKenna suddenly finds herself doggie-paddling in a turbulent sea of blood with no land in sight.

And that’s the highlight of her day so far, because her abductors seem perfectly content to simply leave her in this strange Otherworld. Quinn must fight tooth and nail to unearth answers about herself and her place in the worlds of both Man and Fae...even if that means losing herself, first.

Luckily, it seems teeth and nails are all the rage as Quinn teams up with an unlikely guide as a god’s consolation prize. Unfortunately, it turns out man’s best friend can be one damn salty dog.

Debts come due and masks are torn away, and Quinn learns that nothing and no one is as they seemed. That her entire life has been a setup for a much more nefarious game. And the only way to even have a chance at winning is to fetch those broken remnants of her soul.

It’s a dog eat dog world out there....

And this black magic arms dealer likes to bite - when the mood is right.

If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or K.F. Breene, you won't be able to put down the highly addictive Phantom Queen Diaries or anything else in the Temple Verse.

“Shayne Silvers, Jim Butcher, and Kevin Hearne are easily my favorite urban fantasy authors. In that order.” (Michael Anderle, Amazon top 25 best-selling author)

Quinn gets a guide dog

Quinn finds herself in the other world unexpectedly. She needs to get to her mother and is running out of time. It gets even worse when she gets sidetracked in the Land of Youth and then again in the Blighted Lands. Will she make it before either she or her mother dies?

conundrum

I had a little trouble concentrating on the story line in this one. I would get lost and have to go back to see if I missed something. But still a great section of Quinn's ongoing story.

least favorite

Quinn is by far my favorite character of the temple verse but this particular book is my least favorite out of all the infamous Quinn books.

My new favorite series!

I have not had a new favorite for 25 years. This series has action, sci-fantasy, mystery, and a strong woman lead. I do not like graphic language, but that is the only drawback.

Stupid main characters case off adults

This series is excellent, and the author has navigated difficult shifts in character development through the last three books. I’ve really enjoyed the snappy stories.

This book is not as good as the previous ones. The main character is not growing more thoughtful due to ever more complex life lessons, but instead she makes ridiculous choices over and over to maintain her “heads-down” attack attitude despite various warnings and suggestions by people she should, by now, be at least considering as good counselors. Adult readers can only tolerate so much incredible stupidity followed by “everything works out fine” hence no introspection over lives lost over poor decisions.

I’ll read one more—but at 1 credit per 7-hours, im hoping it’s a step up in thoughtful writing, or sadly a good start and a good series idea will have been lost to the rush for the next payday.

If I can ask for a couple boons—I don’t really mind trashy language, and having many Irish friends, I’d say this language (and the readers incredibly accurate accent,) are spot on—but using Jesus’s name as a curse word is jarring, offensive, and really unnecessary. I wish this could be toned down. I was also not thrilled to find that sexuality is now shifting—this kind of woke ideology may be what the world is working to make normal, but most readers find this jarring also. It doesn’t ruin the book, but it does feel like an agenda in a book I’m reading for pleasure.

This reader is amazing, and takes the audio version way beyond the written work. Kudos to finding the perfect performer here! In all I am really enjoying the series with these few caveats. It’s important to note that overall I highly rate—and suggest—this series, but I’d humbly ask the author to please consider the readers—most of us are reading for pleasure, and things that are jarring or rude will run some of us off!

Amanda Rocks!

I simply can’t imagine anyone else narrating these books. Amanda Leigh Cobb is the BEST narrator/actress for the job.
I have to admit it took me a few chapters to get into this book. But only because I miss the characters from the previous book. Each installment has been a new adventure for Quinn and this one was no different. I did like seeing Quinn happy and in love for a change, even if for a short while. Thanks a lot Shayne Silvers! Really love the series!

If you haven't started this series yet, you are seriously missing out.

I listen to the audio version of these books and I love it! I am a bit of a book hoarder, and have a really extensive library. This series managed to stand out by leaps and bounds! It fast-paced, funny, no, it's hilarious, and I simply don't want it to end. It took some time to get used to the narrator but now I simply can't imagine Quinn MacKenna sounding any other way.
And a note to Shayne Silvers - please don't stop writing about Quinn - her part of the Temple Verse is soooooooo much better than the actual Nate Temple! (no offense Cameron O'Connell)

A Girl and Her Dog

You'd expect any story of a girl and her dog to be Lassie remade. Maybe this one is but the girl and the dog both have a sassy mouth and a bad attitude. Love Quinn's journey and getting to see all the sides of her character as she grows. Narrator is fantastic. Can't get enough.
