Publisher's Summary

When Izzy’s mom is offered the work assignment of her dreams, Izzy needs a place to stay for the next seven months. She reaches out to the affluent, British father she’s never met. Before she knows it, she’s in London, staying in a multi-million dollar penthouse with a man she doesn’t want to know.

In exchange for three outings with him, he secures her Shakespeare’s best female role. She quickly realizes she’s in over her head in the world of professional theater and among her father and grandmother’s elite set of friends - even if one boy is pretty cute.

While Izzy’s spirit and sharp tongue are usually enough to save her, she may have met her match in the bustling city of London.

Enjoyed the narration. Story was okay.

I'll basically listen to anything read by Gryphon Corpus. Her voices were incredibly entertaining.

The story was a bit of a cross between What A Girl Wants, The Parent Trap, and The Princess Diaries. It referenced at least two of those so it gets points for self-knowledge, but that doesn't make it less contrived. The plot also suffered a bit from bombarding the reader with Christian themes and church, which included some judgmental commentary on the Anglican Christian tradition and those who ascribe to it. However, it was an entertaining listen, and I genuinely liked the characters and most of the dialogue and internal monologue.

What a great story!

Both my daughter and I have listened to this book and found it to be an engaging story. What girl doesn’t dream of a different life? Izzy is a great character and we hope to hear more of her adventures. As an adult, I don’t normally listen to teen books – but this one is different. For me, it was returning to be a high school student. It’s not the typical “TV show” where the adults are idiots and the kids are the smart snotty ones. It was a look into the character and her understanding of her flaws and strengths. We are looking forward to more books in the series.

The narration was great. Gryphon Corpus, the narrator, brought to life the words of each character. I was engrossed in the story with her storytelling. I would listen to this one again because of her voices. Don’t miss this book!

Terrific Story and a Great Performance!

I received this audiobook free at my request and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I haven't read/listened to the first two books in this series, but I don't think that affected my appreciation for this book any less, as it seemed to work just fine as a stand alone story. The target audience for this story is probably the teen crowd, but as a parent of 3 kids in that age range, I was able to be pulled into it just fine, and understand the characters' points of view. The narration was absolutely outstanding, and I'm definitely looking forward to more from Gryphon Corpus as a narrator, as well as more books in this series!

Really Great Coming of Age Story for all Ages

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, and although I'm sure that they are better if you read them all in order, it was perfectly fine on its own. I really enjoyed Izzy as a character, she honest, spunky, snarky at times, and has to learn some hard lessons about the need to filter what she says, lessons on friendship, and being able to forgive others and yourself. I am hoping that we'll get to hear more of Izzy in the next book. It's definitely written for the young adult crowd but I really feel that it's good for middle school to adult readers... I thoroughly enjoyed it as a parent to teenagers and I will be encouraging mine to listen to it as well. It was fairly clean, only some minor language. As for the narration, she did a fantastic job with the acting, accents and overall narration! It was a really fun book to listen to and I was really impressed with her as a narrator.

Good Story, Terrific Narration

Jumping into a series is often hard to do, but not in this case. Apparently, while there is a thread that links some of the characters between the books, they are each focused on a different girl’s story. The first couple of chapters didn’t really suck me in, but giving it a little patience paid off. I wound up enjoying the story. The determination of Izzy to be independent and angry with her estranged father is engaging, as is her struggle to maintain both attitudes.

The story is good, but the narrator is the real highlight. Gryphon Corpus is an extremely talented storyteller. She managed to capture the essence of each character, presenting them as individuals rather than just various voices. The shift between each is seamless, and the delivery of their unique voices and tones performed like a seasoned professional. The accent work is smooth and natural sounding. She even managed to pull off a slight Southern accent blended into a British one, as befit one character. Amazing!

Corpus is a name to remember. She is going to be producing excellent work and earning awards in short order.

NO matter your age, give this book a try!

Young adult fiction or not, I found this book extremely hard to put down.
it could have gone on for several more hours and I still would have been in to it.
I loved Izzy’s whit and spunk. I frequently found myself smiling when she delivered something slightly sarcastic. She was also floored and had issues which was great. She was a very relatable character. The story flowed along very well, at a good pace, and was very interesting.
I would love to see more of Izzy in future books.
I loved the way the story eased the listener in to the real message, which was about forgiveness and the fact that money and power isn’t anywhere near everything.
The narration was fantastic. It really brought the story to life.I could almost see the expression on Izzy’s face as she went to battle or delivered her lines. The different accents were great as well.
I must admit, that i am reading the second book in this series, and although it’s a different character and the narrator is very good, I miss Gryphon Corpus.
I am shamelessly going to put in a request that book one, Sketchy Tacos is produced in audio. I would love to be able to listen to the whole series so far. I also definitely hope there will be more books!
Maybe a book showing more of what happens between Izzy, her dad, how her mother ends up in her new job etc.
I would highly recommend this book whether you are 15 or 59.
Great job!

A lovely easy read for all ages

When I started listening to this book I hadnt realised that it was one of a collection of novels. Nevertheless I carried on and realised that I didnt have to read any others to comprehend the story. Although this book is aimed at young adults I think it will appeal to readers of all ages. The narrator was the perfect choice to bring the novel to life and I loved the differentiation between the accents . izzy was a very likeable and relatable character which is a breath of fresh air within this genre. She is blunt , straight to the point whilst being witty and sarcastic . I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review
