In Saint Thérèse of Lisieux’s twenty-four years, she captivated hearts by her simple path to holiness known as the “little way.” She taught that small acts of love were sufficient to win heaven. Although she longed to be a martyr, a missionary, and a priest, she realized that God was just as pleased by practicing virtues in little ways. As her namesake Saint Terese of Calcutta would say, “Do ordinary things with extraordinary love.” In fact, Saint Thérèse said, “My vocation is love.”

It traces Saint Thérèse’s transformation from a sheltered, little girl pampered by three sisters to a young teenager begging the pope to let her be a nun to a holy Carmelite who knew how to suffer. Her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, helped make her the popular saint she is today. So did her promise to let fall “a shower of roses” on earth.
