Publisher's Summary

G. K. Chesterton's classic biography of St. Francis. Visit ChestertonBooks.com to see other books in our G. K. Chesterton series.

"St. Francis was above all things a great giver; and he cared chiefly for the best kind of giving which is called thanksgiving.... He knew that the praise of God stands on its strongest ground when it stands on nothing. He knew that we can best measure the towering miracle of the mere fact of existence if we realize that but for some strange mercy we should not even exist.... From him came a whole awakening of the world and a dawn in which all shapes and colors could be seen anew." - G. K. Chesterton

Hard to follow

What I could focus on was brilliant but it rambled a bit. I was hoping for more of the story of Saint Francis’s life. I was left wanting to know more details about his actual story. I like to listen to my books while I work this one didn’t work well for that. All said and done I’m glad I listened. I learned some really interesting things and Chesterton is incredibly intelligent.

Very informative philosophical study

I knew next to nothing of St Francis and his philosophy before hearing this very insightful study of his movement. Now I am greatly encouraged to learn more of this unique man and his practices/teachings. I recommend this to all who wish to approach Christian mysticism with an open mind. One word of caution concerning the narrator: at first you may think that his tone is too monotonous or leveled to sustain your interest, but it is just this gentle and measured delivery which seems necessary to a discussion of the person who is St. Francis of Assisi.

Not the greatest

This book was written as if it were for a college course. I have heard much better books on St. Francis
