The Sacred Rhythm of the Sabbath and How to Restore It in Your Own Life
Toward the end of his life, Thomas Merton warned of a "pervasive form of contemporary violence" that is unique to our times: overwork and overactivity. In his work as a minister and caregiver, Wayne Muller has observed the effects of this violence on our communities, our families, and our people. On Sabbath, he responds to this escalating "war on our spirits," and guides us to a sanctuary open to everyone.

Muller immerses us in the sacred tradition of the shabbat (the day of rest) a tradition, Muller says, that is all but forgotten in an age where consumption, speed, and productivity have become the most valued human commodities. Inviting us to drink from this "fountain of rest and delight," he offers practices and exercises that reflect the sabbath as recognized in Christianity, Judaism, and Buddhism. Through this way of nourishment and repose, Muller teaches, we welcome insights and blessings that arise only with stillness and time.

Rich with meditations, poems, and inspiring true stories, Sabbath asks us to remember this most simple and gracious of all spiritual practices.

The beginning is great but bro get's it all wrong, The Sabbath is not the queen believers are the "Queen" and the Sabbath Bride. Then he does as unbelievers do and tells fables and stories based on men's futile imagination. It is the body of Messiah that is the bride, not the Sabbath which Heschel calls "The Bride." Of course this just exposes the arrogance of those who have no real genuine faith in Adonai (they neither believe Him or read the scriptures with understanding) but love and embrace the traditions of men.

Bro gets it wrong, believers are the "Queen" not..

Grateful for the Sabbath

I was expecting a Biblical account of the Sabbath. instead, Mr. Muller combines teachings of Jesus in the Bible with Buddhist teachings. Nope. No thank you. They contradict each other.

Great real-life examples from history and modern day pointing to the benefits of proper Sabbath. Any longer and it might be overkill for some topics.

Reminder of the purpose to center

This was the best book I have read in a long time. It was like it was written for me. I have been telling friends my life has become unbalanced, but I didn't do anything about it. Now I have been diagnosed with cancer and my too busy life has come to a screeching halt. In comes Wayne Muller, hit the nail on the head, has explained how to get back on track, and now I begin my journey of healing and balance through Sabbath. Thank you for giving me permission.

This book highlighted exactly what has gone wrong
