Now I understand why the Russian people are as they are. What a history. It is brief, but the explanation comes through without a lot of fluff that usually drowns out the basics.

The title of the book best describes it: a very nice introduction to Russian history. The book is factual without the human drama and foibles that make history interesting,

This book does exactly what it says

An excellent, like most non-fiction history books, it can be a bit heavy and not one you'd listen in one go, but a good audiobook if you are interested in learning more about the topic.

This is an awesome book

The detail and explanations about each phase of Russian history really help explain the Russian mindset of its leaders. You may come away wondering if anyone has any sense of ethics in Russian history. Its story is both glorious and deeply distressing.

helps understand the Country

One window is not enough to explore Russia's History because there is more than one Russia and more than one History. And Figes does an excellent job of exploring the cultures of all these Russias.

for history buffs like myself

It is very strong in describing how the Bolsheviks set up soviets in the factories and the army, using them as a source of influence and power. Also very good on the description of the cooperation of Lenin with the German govt.
